Lenovo announced its Yoga S730 a few months ago at IFA. At CES, Lenovo introduced the Yoga S940 today. This higher-end model of Lenovo's consumer ultrabook series contains a 13.9 inch screen, which is much brighter and comes with an optional 4K UHD panel, which also support HDR.

At IFA 2018 in Berlin, Lenovo announced a sort of relaunch of its "Yoga" brand. From now on, the brand Yoga would not stand exclusively for convertible laptops anymore. Instead, normal non-Convertible premium laptops will be branded as "Yoga" as well. The first model of this new series is the Lenovo Yoga S730-13IWL, an extremely thin laptop of the upper middle-class.

At CES 2019, Lenovo undertakes the next step, as it introduces the first true high-end clamshell ultrabook under the umbrella of the Yoga brand. This first high-end model is called Lenovo Yoga S940.

The most important differentiator to the cheaper Lenovo Yoga S730-13IWL is the display of the Yoga S940: Instead of a 13.3 inch screen, Lenovo uses a slightly bigger 13.9 inch panel, just like in the Lenovo Yoga C930. The standard FHD (1,920 x 1,080) screen is much brighter compared with the cheaper Yoga S730 – instead of 300 cd/m², it should reach 400 cd/m². For even more demanding users, Lenovo will also offer an optional 4K UHD screen (3,840 x 2,160), which is supposed to deliver a brightness value of 500 cd/m². Both displays support HDR, promising a more brilliant image.

Lenovo emphasizes not only the quality of the LCD panels used in the Yoga S940, but also the manner in which they have been integrated into the aluminium chassis of the Lenovo Yoga S940. The screen bezels are extremely small, Lenovo is advertising a screen-to-body-ratio of 90 %. Additionally, the glass-panel in front of the screen is rounded at the sides, which provides an unique look. All around, the Lenovo Yoga S940 is very light with just 1.2 kg and also thin with a thickness of 12.2 mm. Because of the extremely thin chassis, Lenovo only puts in three USB C ports. Two of those support Thunderbolt 3.

The speakers are important for an expensive high-end ultrabook for consumers as well. In the Lenovo Yoga S940, the user-facing speakers support Dolby Atmos. They are positioned beside the keyboard. Apart from the sound and visual quality, Lenovo also places a huge emphasis on AI features. For example, Lenovo puts in an Infrared-camera. This IR-camera can be used for Windows Hello, but also to track the eye-movement of the user. This can be utilized to lock the machine if the user leaves, for example. Also, the Yoga S940 supports Amazon Alexa, which can be configured to recognize only the voice of the laptop's owner.

The Lenovo Yoga S940 is supposed to be available in Mai, with a starting price of $1,500. Lenovo uses recent Core i7-CPUs in the Yoga S940, as well as 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of SSD storage. The LPDDR3-RAM can be configured with 8 or 16 GB ex-factory. The Yoga S940 will only be available in one color: Grey.
