Also, it was nice to see an SD card reader on it, as well as a dedicated RAM SODIMM slot, M.2 PCIe x4 support and a 2.5″ SATA drive bay. However, there is no USB Type-C to play with and its TN display is just terrible if you have to show someone your presentation. Typically for a TN panel, the viewing angles are horrendous, as is the contrast ratio. But at this price point, you are more or less left with no choice. If you are willing to save your piggy bank from its misery, you can go for the more professional HP ProBook 450 G6 or even the Lenovo ThinkPad E590.

There you have it. A 15-inch budget business laptop, that is no ThinkPad by any means but should be able to handle your daily tasks. We are glad to say that writing e-mails and building presentations will be great thanks to its decent keyboard, but in our opinion, you would be better of using a Bluetooth mouse, since the touchpad is not the best.

The affordable business laptop industry is a niche where you can win a lot, or lose massively. There are millions of people around the world that are potential customers, which makes the brands want to be more appealing. Well, the V15 (G1 IML) has some features that are pretty convincing. For example, the keyboard is super comfortable and offers spill resistance. The touchpad offers accurate tracking, and nimble response, which adds up to one of the best input device packages in this class at the moment. Interestingly, the small 35Wh battery doesn’t seem to bottleneck the experience as much as we expected. We were able to get more than 7 hours and a half of Web browsing, or nearly 7 hours of video playback. Lenovo V15 (G1 IML)’s TN panel has a Full HD resolution, fast pixel response times, and doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment. Unfortunately, the narrow viewing angles and the low contrast ratio make for a rather unpleasant experience. Also, it only covers 54% of the sRGB color gamut. Then comes the upgradeability, which is a bit of a mixed bag.

Lenovo now equips the V15 G2 with a hexa-core processor from AMD but still keeps the Full HD resolution in its TN display with weak viewing angles. Our test will show whether the affordable entry-level device is still good for doing some regular work.

Once again, the Lenovo V15 greets us with mixed feelings. It comes with a decent performance package in the form of Intel’s Alder Lake U-series processors. The cooling is quite capable, even though it prefers to keep it quiet, rather than give the full performance it has on the table. Although, we are really happy with the short-load clock speeds the Core i7-1255U posted. Nevertheless, there are a couple of things we would like to address. First – the construction. Its plastic body is prone to flex, especially in the bottom half of the base, which has zero support. The part beneath the keyboard has a metal structure, which prevents the chassis from twisting. Furthermore, the speakers don’t sound very good, and there is no SD card reader to be found. Lenovo V15 Gen 3’s TN panel has a Full HD resolution, quick pixel response times, and a non-flickering backlight. On the other hand, its viewing angles are very narrow, the contrast ratio is super low, and the color coverage sits at a mere 50% of the sRGB color gamut. You should avoid this display option at any cost. Even if that means downgrading to a lower-tier processor, you should pick the IPS option instead. On the bright side, the keyboard and the touchpad feel pretty comfortable. Well, with the exception of the nonuniform feedback of the keys, and the small size of the touchpad. And while we mentioned the lack of an SD card reader, the I/O is pretty fine, with the USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port supporting both Power Delivery and DisplayPort outputs. This machine is sold with two battery options. A smaller 38Wh package, and a 45Wh one. Our configuration was equipped with a smaller battery, and it lasted for 8 hours of Web browsing, or 6 hours of video playback on a single charge. This is pretty fine, considering the small capacity of the battery. At the end of the day, our opinion of the V15 series hasn’t changed. The only positive, compared to last year, we see is the introduction of a fully-fledged USB Type-C port.

Let’s round up this review by quickly mentioning the Lenovo V15 Gen 4’s bad sides. First and foremost, its build quality is not great. By using only plastic, Lenovo has cut a lot of costs. However, this leaves the overall feeling of the product to be a bit cheap. Lenovo V15 Gen 4’s TN panel has a Full HD resolution, quick pixel response time, and doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment. This makes the panel safe for long periods of use. At least in this aspect. On the other hand, it covers only half of the colors found on the Web (49% of sRGB), the contrast ratio is horrific, and the viewing angles are very narrow. This means the only two creatures that can watch a movie together are you, and the ghost that stands right behind you. Then come the soldered memory and the lack of an SD card slot. Indeed neither of the two will hurt too much, considering the price range of this machine, and the fact that its hardware won’t really let you edit photos on it. On the bright side, the keyboard is really comfortable for typing.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.
