Lenovo has introduced its first glass-free 3D monitor at IFA 2023. The ThinkVision 27 3D enables professionals to view their content in 3D without having to wear cumbersome glasses. The monitor supports up to 4K resolution in 2D mode and a 3D resolution of 1920 x 2160 together with a host of connectivity options.

We've been seeing a steady arrival of glass-free 3D displays, both in laptops as well as in standalone monitors. At IFA 2023, Lenovo introduced the ThinkVision 27 3D as the company's first glass-free 3D monitor. The ThinkVision 27 3D is aimed primarily at content creators who wish to visualize their creations in 3D space.

According to Lenovo, the ThinkVision 27 3D uses a switchable lenticular lens together with real-time eye detection. The monitor projects two independent images that the eyes perceive at slightly different angles, thereby creating a sense of depth and stereo vision.

The IPS monitor has a 1000:1 contrast ratio and offers a 4K 2D resolution and a 1920 x 2160 3D resolution with a 40° field of view at a distance of 60 to 100 cm. Typical brightness in both 2D and 3D modes is rated at about 310 nits.

Lenovo also claims a 99% DCI-P3, 99% Adobe RGB, and a 100% sRGB coverage for the ThinkVision 27 3D and says that the monitor is factory calibrated for an average Delta E of <2 in the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB spectra. The display has a 60 Hz refresh rate, meaning 30 Hz per eye when viewing in 3D.

The ThinkVision 27 3D offers decent connectivity with 2x HDMI 2.1-out, 1x DisplayPort 1.4-out, USB Type-C (HBR 3), RJ45, and audio out. The USB Hub can accommodate 1x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C upstream and 5x USB 3.2 Gen1 downstream together with a power deliver of up to 100 W. The ThinkVision 27 3D also supports the Lenovo MC60 monitor webcam that offers 1080p IR and RGB sensors.

Lenovo offers the 3D Explorer software that allows users to make use of the monitor's 3D functionality. The company said that 3D Explorer allows creation and viewing of 3D models while also providing an SDK for developers to create 3D apps.

The Lenovo ThinkVision 27 3D will be available from February 2024 starting at €2,999 (including VAT). If you do decide to splurge on this monitor, be sure to know that Lenovo recommends at least an Intel Core i5-7500, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, 16 GB RAM, and Windows 10 64-bit to power the 3D experience.
