Lenovo is offering the ThinkPad P16s Gen 4 laptop with a massive 49% discount for a limited time. With 96 GB of DDR5 memory and a 12-core Strix Point APU, the P16s promises good performance with a few, but notable downsides.

Recent RAM and storage price hikes due to supply chain pressures have made life much harder for laptop and PC shoppers. Attractive deals are now much more difficult to find, but certainly not impossible. Courtesy of Lenovo's ongoing sale, the ThinkPad P16s can now be bought with a massive 49% discount, bringing its price down to $1,545.

This specific variant of the Lenovo ThinkPad P16s ships with a whopping 96 GB of DDR5 RAM, and is powered by the capable AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370 APU. The Strix Point APU packs a total of 12 cores and 24 threads, consisting of 4x Zen 5 and 8x Zen 5c cores.

In terms of overall performance, the APU should be in the same league as an Apple M5 and the latest Intel Core Ultra X7 358H Panther Lake CPU. As mentioned earlier, the laptop sports 96 GB of DDR5-5600 memory and a 1 TB SSD, both of which are easily user accessible and upgradeable. Our in-depth review of the P16s reveals no major complaints regarding overall performance.

The RAM and storage components are user-replaceable, but not the WiFi.

However, the ThinkPad P16s does not ship with a dedicated GPU, forcing the Radeon 890M iGPU to do all the heavy lifting. With 16 RDNA 3.5 cores, the Radeon 890M is no slouch and promises performance that should be able to keep up with a GTX 1650 Laptop. In simpler terms, some lightweight 1080p gaming is definitely possible.

This specific variant of the ThinkPad P16s does not get an OLED option, and instead settles for a 16-inch 60 Hz IPS panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. Our testing reveals roughly 96.5% coverage of the sRGB color gamut, and a disappointing 67.8% coverage of the P3 color gamut. The laptop is clearly not suited for professionals with color-sensitive workflows, but should be decent enough for others.

Moreover, despite its acceptable performance, the laptop does get very loud and hot under load. This is mostly due to the single fan setup having to do all the work, which is not ideal. That said, battery life is extremely admirable at almost 13.9 hours of runtime in our WiFi web surfing test, thanks to its 86 Wh pack.

At its current price, folks who require a lot of system memory and good CPU performance will definitely be very pleased with the Lenovo ThinkPad P16s, provided that they can live with a slightly mediocre display and a rather loud fan curve.
