Deal | Lenovo Legion 5i gaming laptop with GeForce RTX 5070 gets $705 discount

Considering that Lenovo has already been considering price hikes across its commercial and enterprise lineups, the idea of something similar happening to consumer products in the near future is not too far-fetched. Thankfully, few exciting Lenovo Legion laptop deals can still be found, such as the one we're about to cover here.

The GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop-powered Legion 5i 15 is now available for just $1,290 on Lenovo's official online store, courtesy of an ongoing sale and two additional coupons (BUYMORELENOVO, EXTRAFIVE) that shave $705 off its nearly $2,000 MSRP. While not quite as low as its previous sale price of $1,259, the Legion 5i at its current price packs pretty good value.

The Lenovo Legion 5i gaming laptop has great sustained performance

The Legion 5i, unlike the Legion 5, is based on an Intel CPU. To be precise, the Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX powers this potent gaming laptop, and is equipped with a 20-core, 20-thread setup. This specific variant ships with 16 GB of DDR5 memory and 1 TB storage (WD SN7100 currently $206 on Amazon).

Our in-depth review of this laptop with an older Core i7 CPU was mostly positive in terms of performance, and we found that the gaming laptop was able to sustain its performance admirably well.

In raw benchmarks, the Core Ultra 7 255HX matches an Apple M4 Pro and AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX in multithreaded workloads, which simply means that the Legion 5i gaming laptop should be able to handle almost any CPU-intensive workload. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU handles graphics, but is held back by its meagre 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM in demanding titles, and is not great for future-proofing either.

For moderately intensive gaming, however, our review indicates that the Legion 5i is perfectly desirable, with its 115-watt RTX 5070 Laptop GPU managing to defeat similar cards in competing laptops. However, gamers will have to tolerate the rather audible fans, and the mediocre battery life which proved to be just around 5 hours in our WiFi web surfing test.

Last but not  least - the Lenovo Legion 5i gaming laptop packs a superb 1440p OLED display that peaks at a maximum brightness of over 900 nits, and covers an impressive 99.9% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. Content creators will definitely be quite satisfied with the panel, and gamers will appreciate its 165 Hz refresh rate for fast-paced gaming.

At its current price on Lenovo's official store, there is no doubt that the Legion 5i 15 gaming laptop packs a lot of punch, especially considering the ongoing DRAM pricing crisis. The memory and storage are both user-upgradeable, which is always welcome, especially if prospective buyers already have memory sticks lying around for future upgrades.
