Lenovo ThinkPad P70
The Lenovo ThinkPad P70 is a big machine that aims to be a mobile workstation for any high-end user. This mobile workstation comes with a fully black chassis and an overall sturdy build quality. It uses an Intel Xeon processor, which you will normally not find on a mobile workstation. Essentially, it is still an Intel i7 processor. Since it uses the Xeon architecture, it does not come with an integrated graphics. However, you can choose between several NVIDIA Quadro cards: NVIDIA Quadro M600M, M3000M, M4000M, and M5000M. The 17,3 inch display is available with either 1920 x 1080 FHD resolution with touch support or 4k IPS display with a 3840 x 2160 resolution also without the touchscreen feature. There is an optional X-rite color calibration device available next to the touchpad for easier color calibration. The basic model comes with a 256 GB SSD, while expensive models feature a 512 GB SSD. Other hardware components include two Thunderbolt 3 ports, four USB 3.0 port (1 port with always-on charging feature), a mini DisplayPort, and other basic components such as microphone/headphone combo jack, an ExpressCard and an SDXC slot.Specifications

The return of the 17-inch workstation. Lenovo now offers a 17-inch workstation for the first time in almost five years. Contrary to the current trend, however, you do not just get a consumer device with professional components. Was it worth the wait?

If you're in the market for a traditional 15 or 17 inch mobile workstation with a robust build, excellent keyboard and impressive high color gamut 4K displays, the Lenovo ThinkPad P50 and P70 merit strong consideration. Even more interesting is the full HD touch screen option that also supports the optional Wacom AES pen for drawing precise control in CAD and graphics programs.

Combining a comfortable keyboard with bleeding-edge performance and an extremely accurate display, the ThinkPad P70 is the 17-inch mobile workstation of choice for professionals and businesses that can't afford to compromise and can afford its premium price. If you want something more portable, consider a 15-inch competitor like the Dell Precision 5510.

Also a success with 15 inches? Following our review of the ThinkPad P70, we have a look at the smaller ThinkPad P50 from Lenovo. The two devices are very similar in many respects, but there are also important differences. Those include the display as well as the more complex maintenance, but also the longer battery runtimes. Our review unit also has a problem with the Turbo Boost most of the time.

Similar to the predecessor, however, the system lacks a bit of CPU performance, and now there is also a strong competitor from Lenovo themselves.

Armed with powerful specs, a beautiful 4K resolution display, responsive keyboard, and a durable chassis the Lenovo ThinkPad P50 workstation is an excellent machine. Let’s not forget to mention the long lasting battery life means users can stay productive even when they’re away from a power outlet. Power users willing to give up a bit of portability may want to consider Lenovo’s P70 model, which comes equipped with an even faster Nvidia M4000M GPU. Conversely, those who don’t need quite as much performance may want to consider either MacBook Pro or the Dell Precision 5510, which both come in at more than a pound lighter than P50.

Like its stablemate the P70, the P50 is wasted on word processors and spreadsheets; it offers serious muscle for plowing through demanding design, engineering, scientific, oil and gas, and similar applications. The Lenovo ThinkPad P70 is a processing powerhouse on wheels. When Intel launched its mobile Xeon processors, it was easy to see that they were investing a lot of resources into transforming the traditional view of a desktop into something more mobile and versatile, and products like the Lenovo ThinkPad P70 help define this growing product category. Lenovo's attention to detail comes through in everything from the spill-proof keyboard to BIOS settings that customize the keyboard layout for accessibility. While the Lenovo ThinkPad P70 is an excellent product, it does have some downsides. The unit weighs more than enough, and the camera's resolution could be better.

However, Lenovo wasn't being lazy with its design. That size and weight is the result of a well equipped mobile workstation that would give some desktop workstations a run for their money.

Considering the punch it packs, the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 is a pretty compact laptop. Lenovo ThinkPad P1-20MD000NGE
The Lenovo ThinkPad P1 is the lightest workstation laptop that is geared towards professional use. Consumers are able to play games on this laptop due to the respectable graphics card, but it is not geared for gaming in particular. So, the ThinkPad P1 is a thin and light workstation. It is built around portability, with a 36.1 cm x 24.6 cm x 18.4 mm dimension and a weight of about 1.7 kg. The laptop is covered in a soft-touch material. Now, normally, soft-touch materials on laptops degrade over time, they just become gunky after a year or two. However, the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 does not show fingerprints readily and, from Lenovo’s history with soft-touch materials, it lasts a very long time, the very durable finish will still look brand new after a year or two of use. Regarding the ports on the Lenovo ThinkPad P1, the laptop has two USB-A ports, two Thunderbolt 3’s on the left, and there is also an SD card slot on the right. The ThinkPad P1 has a very solid build. The hinge is very durable, it has very little flex on the screen and almost no flex on the chassis. Now, the build quality also extends to the bottom of the device, meaning that the bottom panel can be easily taken out, with only six Phillips screws. Also, the screws themselves are still attached to the base plate through see clips. Consumers will have access to basically everything in the laptop: Wi-Fi card, two RAM slots, and two NVMes.
The Lenovo ThinkPad P1 uses ECC memory, up to 64 GB of it, and the laptop runs on a XEON processor, clearly built for professional use. The battery life on the ThinkPad P1 can last up to 13 hours and also comes with a fast-charging charger, which is actually one of the fastest charging batteries in a laptop. Consumers will be able to get approximately 80% of the battery full in about 30 minutes. The laptop has a 4K panel screen, it is bright, color-accurate and touch-sensitive. The bezels are not the thinnest and there is a chin to the laptop. The webcam of the device is located in the traditional position, above the screen, providing users a normal webcam angle. The laptop’s screen folds back flat, it has a touch screen and it can be used with a Lenovo Pen. The ThinkPad P1 has excellent CPU performance, the XEON processor performs better than a more common 8750H. The GPU in the ThinkPad P1, however, is the Quadro P2000 Max-Q and it is most equivalent to a 1050 TI. Now, the ThinkPad P1 is not built for gaming, so consumers will not be able to get amazing performance in games, as it is geared towards more professional applications.

The P1 remains my overall favourite laptop to date, and it will hopefully only improve as better software and firmware address the GPU/battery drain bugs. You aren’t going to find a laptop with better build quality, input, I/O, and overall performance anytime soon, in my opinion. The next contender to beat the P1 / X1 Extreme is likely simply to be the next iteration of this model. Lenovo just needs to step up their support game and ensure that their updates are being thoroughly tested before being pushed out to end users. If you are looking for a reliable, powerful, and well-designed laptop for professional uses and some gaming, I still highly recommend buying the P1 or X1 Extreme.

We have just talked about the cooling limitations of this notebook. Considering the physical restraints, we are pretty happy with both what we found on the inside, and the way the cooling setup is utilized. Lenovo uses the Windows power profiles to set their own within the Commercial Vantage app. In addition, upgradeability is on a high level with two SODIMM slots for DDR5 RAM in dual-channel mode, as well as up to two M.2 PCIe x4 slots for Gen 4 SSDs in RAID mode. Yes, it is not as populated as that of the HP ZBook Fury 16 G9, or Lenovo’s own ThinkPad P15 Gen 2. But let’s remind ourselves that the two machines we’ve just listed come with significantly bulkier bodies. To this already long list of good features, we can add the battery life – 15 hours of Web browsing, or 10.5 hours of video playback on a single charge. The fantastic input devices will make sure that you get the greatest user experience, while the two front-firing speakers will produce a very good sound. All in all, this is not the best laptop in one exact parameter, but it is a fantastic all-rounder, that comes with a huge hardware potential curve.

From 2004, the company has been the largest laptop manufacturer in China and got the fourth largest manufacturer worldwide after the acquisition of IBM's PC division in 2005. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company also produces monitors, projectors, servers, etc.
In 2011, Lenovo acquired the majority of Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Lenovo took over Motorola Mobility, which gave them a boost in the smartphone market.
From 2014 to 2016 Lenovo's market share in the global notebook market was 20-21%, ranking second behind HP. However, the distance decreased gradually. In the smartphone market, Lenovo did not belong to the Top 5 global manufacturers in 2016.
