Pros
Cons
The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 is presented as Lenovo’s most powerful ThinkPad workstation, aimed at professional users who need serious mobile computing power. It features high-end hardware including an Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX processor, Nvidia RTX PRO 3000 Blackwell graphics, 96 GB of RAM, and fast PCIe 5.0 storage. Reviews highlight its strong productivity performance, durable workstation focus, excellent keyboard, modern connectivity, and good battery life. The system is also more portable than traditional heavy workstations, making it suitable for professionals who travel. However, its comparatively low-wattage GPU limits peak performance against larger and thicker competing workstations. With prices around 4000 euros or more, it is best suited to demanding professional users rather than gamers or budget buyers.

Reviews for the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 3
The ThinkPad P16 is Lenovo's most powerful ThinkPad laptop. With the new ThinkPad P16 Gen 3, Lenovo evolves this 16-inch workstation to be a bit more mobile, while still delivering serious performance - however, that performance is limited by one specific factor.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 is a polished 16-inch mobile workstation with an excellent OLED display, a long-lasting battery, and a legendary ThinkPad keyboard. Meanwhile, the laptop's modern connectivity and suitably thin profile make it a fitting high-power companion to travel with. However, the trade-off for that efficiency and portability is peak performance. Equipped with a comparatively low-wattage GPU, the P16 Gen 3 can’t match the raw horsepower of Dell’s thicker Pro Max Plus workstations we've recently tested, which otherwise present feature parity. Even so, Lenovo’s ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 remains an appealing option for those seeking a meaningful step up in performance from the ThinkPad P1 Gen 8 without sacrificing battery life. For maximum power, though, look to the big-screen Dell Pro Max 18 Plus, our Editors' Choice award winner.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 is a laptop for those who need to be able to get real work done. The previous Gen 2 was my top pick in my guide to the best laptops for engineering students - and this upgrade now capably takes that crown. It’s not for gamers, it’s not for those who want a budget laptop, nor is it for those who need a specific travel laptop or lightweight machine. But, if you want a machine that can perform at workstation levels, have a good battery life, be portable enough to take with you anywhere, and also be great to use, look at, and type on, then this is worth considering. The Lenovo P16 Gen 3 is built for those who do, those who get work done every day, and need a tool to help them get there faster.
