The ThinkPad P16 is not exactly the kind of laptop that competes with most mainstream machines. Instead, Lenovo’s 16-inch notebook is designed for buyers who need large amounts of memory, a workstation GPU and expandability as well as business features rather than a sleek chassis or a low entry price. A current offer lowers the price of another high-end configuration, although this device still remains extremely expensive.
Specifically, Lenovo has introduced another deal for the ThinkPad P16 Gen 3, this time for the model number 21RQ002XUS. The mobile workstation is currently available for $5,609 after applying the coupon code "BUYMORELENOVO" during checkout. Lenovo’s regular price for this configuration sits at $7,599, which puts the discount at $1,990 or 26 percent.
16-inch Lenovo laptop with 4K screen, Core Ultra 9 and lots of DDR5
This particular configuration pairs the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX with 128GB DDR5 RAM total with four 32GB modules. The mass storage is handled by a 4TB PCIe 5.0 SSD, while the GPU is the Nvidia RTX Pro 4000 Blackwell Laptop GPU with 16GB GDDR7 VRAM. According to the product page, this Nvidia GPU is rated for up to 1,334 TOPS of AI performance, which might be one of the main use cases for a laptop like this.
Unlike some other ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 configurations that we recently reported on, this discounted model does not come with the tandem OLED display. Instead, Lenovo uses a 16-inch WQUXGA IPS panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2400 pixels, 800 nits of brightness, 100% DCI-P3 coverage and X-Rite factory color calibration. For users who prioritize brightness, color coverage and a matte surface over OLED contrast, this may still be the more practical panel.
The rest of the specification sheet of the ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 includes Windows 11 Pro, WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, a 5MP IR webcam with privacy shutter and a 99.9Wh battery. The port selection consists of two Thunderbolt 5 ports, one Thunderbolt 4 port, two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, 2.5GbE and an SD Express 8.0 card reader. The laptop weighs about 5.6 lb, so it remains a somewhat transportable workstation rather than a genuinely portable notebook.
Check out our review before buying the ThinkPad P16 G3
Our review of the ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 found that Lenovo’s redesigned workstation offers strong overall performance, very good expandability, modern connectivity and good input devices. The chassis can accommodate up to 192GB RAM and three M.2 2280 SSDs, which is one of the main reasons why this machine is interesting for CAD, engineering, development and local AI workloads.
However, Lenovo still made a few compromises with the ThinkPad P16 Gen 3. In our review configuration, the RTX Pro 3000 Blackwell GPU was limited to 105 watts, and the 180-watt USB-C charger was criticized as undersized, which is a major caveat for a workstation laptop that is probably used in a stationary setting for the most part.
In any case, the latest deal still targets a relatively narrow group of users. At $5,609, this ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 is way too expensive for general productivity, content consumption or gaming. Therefore, it doesn’t make too much sense for regular users, but for professional users who specifically need ECC RAM, an Nvidia RTX Pro GPU, a high-resolution matte 4K display and extensive upgrade options, this discount might be more relevant.
