Once, the ThinkPad 13 was one of the cheapest ThinkPad models. Slowly but surely, Lenovo has been improving this line, ever since it was integrated into the ThinkPad L series.
With this history of improvement. it is logical that Lenovo continues this development. With the ThinkPad L13 G3 and L13 Yoga G3, Lenovo is now using 16:10 screens, for the first time ever in the L series. But since these are still budget models, the screen resolution is limited to 1,920 x 1,200 (WUXGA).
With the predecessors ThinkPad L13 G2 (available from Amazon, affiliate link) and ThinkPad L13 Yoga G2, a different limitation was the RAM. Those models were limited to 16 GB. The new L13 Gen 3 and L13 Yoga Gen 3 will be available with up to 32 GB RAM, the same amount as the much more expensive ThinkPad X series.
Through the adoption of 16:10, the new ThinkPads are much more compact and lightweight than earlier models, with smaller screen bezels. Lenovo also upgrades the webcams to 1080p, another first for the affordable L series.
With the redesign, the mechanical dock at the side is removed. USB4 is not available for the AMD models, as Lenovo uses Ryzen Pro 5000 for the L series. Only the Intel models have Thunderbolt 4. A nice detail: Lenovo places a USB C port on both sides, so the L13 and L13 Yoga can now be charged from either side.
Availability for the L13 Gen 3 and L13 Yoga Gen 3 is May, with the following prices:
- ThinkPad L13 G3 AMD: $799
- ThinkPad L13 G3 Intel: $860
- ThinkPad L13 Yoga G3 AMD: $980
- ThinkPad L13 Yoga G3 Intel: $1040
