When Lenovo announced the ThinkPad E14 with AMD CPUs, the press release did not include a spec-sheet. That is why we assumed that it would feature single-channel RAM, as the Intel model of the ThinkPad E14 only has one RAM slot as well.
Now, Lenovo has published the detailed PSREF specifications of the new AMD model, shedding light on the new ThinkPad laptop. The new Lenovo ThinkPad E14 with AMD Ryzen 4000 is not just a variation of the Intel model, but a new version, the ThinkPad E14 Gen 2.
One of the changes of the new Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2: The new model has four to eight gigabyte soldered memory. Together with the single RAM slot, the memory will run in dual-channel mode, just like the predecessor Lenovo ThinkPad E495.
This is not the only new feature revealed by the spec-sheet: Lenovo removes the 2.5 inch HDD bay. Instead the ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 features an additional M.2 2242 slot, so users still get the option to use two storage devices.
An important new feature compared with the ThinkPad E495: The keyboard is optionally backlit. With the preceding generation, this feature was still exclusive for the Intel model ThinkPad E490.
With the listing in the PSREF, the release of the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 and the bigger ThinkPad E15 Gen 2 is probably imminent.
