Lenovo ThinkPad 25: New specs and pictures of the Retro ThinkPad have been leaked
On October 5th, the ThinkPad brand turns 25. In late June, Lenovo announced that there will be a special, limited-edition model. Some pictures have been leaked during the summer as well, but no detailed specifications were leaked, until today: The German website winfuture.de published the key specs of the special edition ThinkPad, as well as more pictures showing the machine in full detail.
As the ThinkPad 25 Anniversary Edition is based on the well-regarded ThinkPad T470, many of the key specs are exactly the same, so ports, weight and dimensions are exactly the same. The ThinkPad 25 uses a high-configuration model as the base, as it includes the Core i7-7500U and the dedicated Nvidia GeForce 940MX. The display is a 14" 16:9 1920x1080 touchscreen, a matte touchscreen as Lenovo uses in the Thinkpad T470s.
Of course, the key feature of the ThinkPad 25 is its classical 7-row ThinkPad-keyboard. It includes a blue enter key and for the first time ever on a ThinkPad, a non-Chiclet keyboard with backlighting. Other differences seem to include a rubberized palmrest (the T470 has a normal plastic palmrest) as well as redesigned TrackPoint mouse-buttons.
Supposedly the Thinkpad 25 will be released in October. Not known yet is the price for which Lenovo will sell it, nor is it known if there will be a worldwide release or just a release in certain regions. Lenovo announced it as a limited edition, which could mean a limitation in numbers as well as geographic availability.
