Usually, we are not big fans of manufacturers who don’t refresh the designs of their devices. In this case, however, Lenovo was so far ahead of its competition two years ago in this regard, that we can let it slide one more time. If we have to be honest, the model doesn’t suffer from its plastic housing, as the base is pretty sturdy.

The new Legion 5 is a combination of good looks and performance. It will appeal to those who want the processing power of a gaming laptop but in a body that looks simple and clean. When it’s time to play, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU, GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, and 16GB RAM are more than capable to run those graphics-intensive titles. The display resolution is limited to Full HD, but it has a 165Hz refresh for some smooth gameplay. The speakers are underwhelming, though, so better use headphones or powerful desk speakers to augment it. Lastly, it’s priced at PHP 89,995, so, if you have a tight budget and are okay with FHD gaming, this laptop is worth considering.

The new Legion 5 is yet another great option in this increasingly contested section of the laptop market. It’s capable of better gaming performance than both the Acer Nitro 5 and the Asus TUF Dash F15 and it also comes within striking distance of the far pricier Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 as well. It’s not just about gaming, though: the Legion 5 both looks and feels like a more upmarket device than the Nitro or the Dash, although granted the former is £300 cheaper and the Asus has a better sound system and longer-lasting battery life. If it was my money, however, then I’d say the Lenovo just about edges it. I mostly use headphones while gaming anyway and usually have my laptop plugged into the wall no matter what I'm doing. And besides, the Legion 5’s unmatched gaming credentials massively outweigh any of its minor drawbacks.

The Lenovo Legion 5 offers well-balanced and impressive speed alongside good thermal performance, an impressive keyboard and a subtle design that’s packed with ports – and it’s often cheaper than rivals. But remember that this machine is heavier and thicker than the competition and that it’s got an underwhelming display, too.

The ThinkPad X1 Nano is exactly what you'd expect — essentially a smaller, 13-inch version of the excellent X1 Carbon. Its larger sibling has proven itself as the best business laptop for several years running, which leaves one question for the X1 Nano: What corners were cut to make an ultrathin laptop even more portable?

The Legion 5 is one of the best-value mid-tier laptops of this generation, and a recommendation in this 3060 configuration over here in Europe where it's also very aggressively priced. What you're getting here is rugged and reliable build quality, fair inputs, IO and screen, as well as excellent performance across the board in all sorts of demanding loads and games. This is not without some quirks, though, and many are software and QC related, which I would have hoped Lenovo to figure out by now given the series has been available in stores for many months now.

Overall, the Lenovo Legion 5 (15″ Intel, 2021) is a great allrounder and it offers a lot of bang for its money. The device has an all-plastic build that feels solid and rigid even when you try to twist it on purpose. Sure, the lid is a bit bendy but that fine for a plastic unit like this one. However, the Lenovo Legion 5 (15″ Intel, 2021) is a strong package for gamers, it has a good 165Hz display with fast response times, a good keyboard, and it can be configured with fast Intel Tiger Lake H45 CPUs as well as some NVIDIA Ampere GPUs with hefty TGP values. When you add the great upgradability options in the mix and the sky-high boosting CPU and GPU, this Lenovo machine is a great all-rounder that offers fast performance in games and in productivity as well (especially if choose an 8-core processor).

If we could be sure of Costco's extending its price cut for the Legion 5 15IAH7H from $1,549.99 to $1,099.99, this would be a five-star review with "Buy It" in blinking red letters. Even at its everyday price, however, this Lenovo is a genuine find, a not-svelte but not-too-hefty gaming rig with sharper-than-usual screen resolution and performance that tops most GeForce RTX 3060 laptops. It's a midrange system that can run with some high-end models.

The 2022 Lenovo Legion 5i is a fresh design with cleaner looks and improved ergonomics, as well as an updated set of specs, now running at higher power than before and more capable in demanding loads and in games. On top of that, Lenovo were able to polish some of my nits with the previous 5 generations. At the same time, this remains a full-size laptop with only average-quality screens, so it's highly competitive in its mid-tier class, but not necessarily the ideal option for everyone.

The Legion 5i Pro breaks the notion that a gaming laptop cannot look good while doing its heavy lifting. The laptop is a beast in performance and can do everything from usual office work to heavy gaming without breaking a sweat. Its professional and minimalist look also adds to its appeal. I do think some improvements are needed in the speaker and battery-life department. But besides that, Lenovo does not let any flaws show. If you are a gamer who is looking for a laptop that can play more or less every mainstream game smoothly and look good while doing it, you should definitely consider it. But it does cost Rs. 1,57,000 for all that and over Rs. 2 lakh if you want the RTX 3070 Ti and Intel i9-12900H upgrade. That is a big amount and I'm not sure if the extra CPU power is worth the price. However, if your usage requires that extra bit of power, this device might be beneficial for you. But if not, you can also look at HP Omen 16, Acer Nitro 5 and ROG Strix G17 who more or less offer similar specifications to the base model but different design aesthetics to choose from.

The Lenovo Legion 5i is a competent mid-range gaming laptop that struggles to throw aside the compromises its affordable pricing demands. It does the job, but it’s a bit boring. Performance is the highlight. Mid-range gaming laptops often perform well for their price and the Legion 5i seems a bit ahead of this already impressive pack. This is as quick a gaming laptop as you’ll find without upgrading to RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 hardware, something you’ll only find in laptops that are at least a few hundred dollars more expensive. However, Acer’s Nitro 5 is a slightly better value, offering almost identical performance for even less. The rest of the laptop is a cost-effective shell for the hardware. Aside from its connectivity, which is excellent, nothing about the laptop’s quality or feature set puts it ahead of the crowd. But with an as-tested price of $1,549.99 and some almost identical hardware configurations dipping to $1,399.99, that’s a compromise many gamers will be willing to accept.

Overall, the Legion 5i is a good mid-tier gaming laptop that won’t disappoint you in gaming and also other intense use cases. It is a full-sized laptop, slightly oversized and a bit heavy at 2.4kg. It also comes with a chunky power brick, though you can use a type C charger.

The Lenovo Legion 5i is a gaming laptop at a relatively accessible price and with quite usable specifications. But it doesn’t make the headlines. In the price range, you have to make some compromises, but in this case, they are not so well chosen. The processor is downright excellent, and the high-resolution and fast screen could provide the basis for great games. Which it does. But despite the fact that in previous tests I’ve complained time and again about an outdated Full HD resolution on gaming monitors, I’d rather sacrifice the WQHD screen for a snappier graphics card. That doesn’t make the Legion 5i a bad machine, but for the price you can find more successful configurations. In fact, you can do that at Lenovo too, which regularly offers just the discount that would make it a good buy.

Like previous models in the Legion lineup, the Lenovo Legion 5i is a powerful laptop delivering a strong design and all the performance you need for gaming. And the ergonomics, display and connectivity make it a little more versatile than some rival games machines. Rivals such as the Acer Nitro 5 2022 offer a slightly stronger spec at a similar price point, but the Legion includes a better, high-resolution screen and a more sophisticated style. If you’re looking for a gaming laptop on which you can also get some work done, you should put the Legion 5i near the top of your list.

There are few things we would change on the Legion 5 if we were Lenovo. We would definitely add an SD card reader, and we would do our best to optimize the voltages of the processor. Other than that, this laptop is on top of its game. So, the big question now is – should you buy a less powerful Legion for the same money as a more powerful IdeaPad Gaming 3? The answer to this depends on what you are willing to do with your laptop. If you are after pure performance, then, the biggest part of your budget should go for the best hardware. However, if you want to use your gaming laptop for work, or school, or you just ought after good build quality, then getting the Legion 5 is a no-brainer.
