The Lenovo Ideapad S340-14IWL-81N700HGGE is a thin and portable ultrabook. Narrow bezels let users get the most out of the display. Thoughtful design details, such as the privacy shutter put users in charge of their webcam and complete their experience. The lightweight chassis of the laptop is made from aluminum and polycarbonate ABS. There are four color options available for the laptop, namely Onyx Black, Sand Pink, Abyss Blue and Platinum Grey. The laptop measures at 32.27 x 23.05 x 1.79 cm (width x depth x height) and weighs at 1.55 kg (3.5 lbs). Lenovo has powered the IdeaPad S340 with Core i5 8265U processors for speedy responsiveness, no matter what the task is. Besides that, the Ideapad S340 comes with 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD, which is sufficient for office work, internet browsing and light entertainment. As for the display, the Lenovo Ideapad S340 has a 14.0" FHD IPS LED backlight AntiGlare display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:9. It has a brightness level of 250 cd/m², which is average among other displays at the same specifications. Users will get the most of their display, thanks to its slim top and side bezels and up to FHD resolution. Lenovo also added thoughtful design elements such as the camera shutter, which puts users in control of what the webcam sees, and the optional backlit keyboard that’s perfect for working in dimly lit places. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home edition with McAfee LiveSafe (trial), Lenovo Vantage, Microsoft Office Centennial (trial), Lenovo App Explorer, LinkedIn and Lenovo Utility pre-installed. The Lenovo IdeaPad S340-15 has been described as something which might spike interest in those who are looking for a somewhat budget entertainment laptop with great efficiency and decent power. The build quality of this laptop is not bad at all. Lenovo has incorporated both aluminum and plastic as building materials. In terms of the design itself, the company has decided to opt for the latest trend of bezel-less displays. With a weight of 1.8 kg and a  thickness of 17.9 mm, this laptop is definitely impressive for a 15-incher. While the lid itself is quite resistant to heavy bending, the base of the laptop does not share the same quality, as it is quite prone to heavy bending. The most susceptible part to this type of bending is the area between the keyboard and the touchpad and also parts of the keyboard.

As far as the keyboard is concerned, the keys have an average travel distance and are not very tactile. However, the good news has to be the backlight which comes with two levels of luminosity that can be controlled by the user. This improves the overall user experience while using the keyboard, as the luminosity can be adjusted based on the surrounding lighting. In terms of the touchpad, it has a good texture and rather swift response to touch. In addition, the touchpad also supports Windows Precision drivers.  As for the display, this 15-inch laptop has been incorporated with a Full-HD TN panel. It has a very narrow viewing angle but is otherwise good for basic media playback. The IdeaPad S340-15 also uses Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) to adjust its brightness.

For this model, there are Intel and AMD versions. The ones with an Intel chipset incorporate three CPUs, which includes the dual-core Core i3-8145U, the quad-core Core i5-8265U and also the Core i7-8565U. As for the AMD versions, there are two dual-core processors, namely the Athlon 300U and the Ryzen 3 3200U. This version also comes with two quad-core CPUs, the Ryzen 5 3500U and the Ryzen 7 3700U. As far as connectivity is concerned, the IdeaPad S340-15 has two Type-A USB ports, a single Type-C USB port, a single HDMI port, a headphone jack, a 4-in-1 SD-Card Reader and also a separate power input for user convenience. However, there is no Thunderbolt 3, which is understandable, as USB Type-C can still support connection to some speedy storage. As for the battery life, the AMD model offers up to 8 hours, while the Intel one goes up to 10 hours. This laptop offers a good design with a decent keyboard, but the performance is pretty much limited to basic tasks. However, there are more powerful versions of this laptop for those who crave for more.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.

In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.

In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

NVIDIA GeForce MX230: Pascal (GP108) based entry-level graphics card with GDDR5 graphics memory. Only suited for less demanding games.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.  

i7-8565U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.

Intel Core i5:

i5-8265U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.9 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.

Intel Core i3:

i3-8145U: Whiskey Lake based low power dual-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The two cores are clocked between 2.1 and 3.9 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.

Intel Pentium:

Pentium 5405U: Whiskey-Lake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Integrates two CPU cores clocked at 2.3 GHz (no Turbo Boost) and a Intel HD Graphics 610 clocked at up to 950 MHz. 

Intel Ice Lake:

i3-1005G1: A low-power, Ice Lake family processor (SoC) featuring 2 cores, 4 threads, 4 MB of L3 cache and the UHD G1 (32 EUs) iGPU. This Core i3 saw the light of day in 2019; it is designed for use in highly portable consumer laptops of the more affordable flavour. The CPU cores run at 1.2 GHz to 3.4 GHz which is not a lot. The Sunny Cove microarchitecture that is in use here is notable for several improvements over Skylake including support for new technologies, new instruction sets and fast LPDDR4-3733 RAM. There is no PCIe 4 support here, however.

i5-1035G1: A low-power, Ice Lake family processor (SoC) featuring 4 cores, 8 threads, 6 MB of L3 cache and the UHD G1 (32 EUs) iGPU. This Core i5 saw the light of day in H2 2019; it is designed for use in highly portable consumer laptops. The CPU cores run at 1.0 GHz to 3.6 GHz. The Sunny Cove microarchitecture that is in use here is notable for several improvements over Skylake including support for new technologies, new instruction sets and fast LPDDR4-3733 RAM. There is no PCIe 4 support here, however.

i7-1065G7: Ice Lake-based quad-core processor for thin and light laptops. The four cores are clocked at 1.3 GHz to 3.9 GHz and should offer 18% more IPC (instructions per clock) than the previous generations (and therefore partly close the clock speed gap). Produced on first-gen 10 nm Intel process.

AMD Picasso (Ryzen 3000 APU):

R3 3200U: A dual-core APU with two Zen cores clocked at 2.6 GHz to 3.5 GHz (with SMT support for a total of 4 threads) and a Vega graphics adapter with 3 CUs clocked at up to 1,200 MHz. The Ryzen 3 is designed for laptops.

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
