Laptops sporting AMD's latest 3rd generation U-class processors are now starting to become widely available. Users have been keeping a close eye on these new models since the Zen 2 CPU series is expected to offer similar or better performance than any Intel 9th gen or 10th gen U-class processor while costing noticeably less.
The deal of interest this week involves the 14-inch Lenovo Flex 5 convertible equipped with the hexa-core Ryzen 5 4500U for just $600 USD. This particular mid-range CPU should offer a performance level roughly in between that of the Core i7-8565U and Core i7-10710U — two high-end Intel processors found on some flagship laptops like the Dell XPS 13 series.
Other specifications are excellent for the price including the 1080p touchscreen, 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD, and active stylus pen at no extra cost.
The main drawback to the system is that the Flex family belongs to Lenovo's budget range of affordable 2-in-1 laptops. Thus, you can't expect the chassis design to be the thinnest, lightest, or sexiest for its size category. For that, you would have to consider Lenovo's flagship Yoga C900 family instead.
