More than two years after announcing its first tablet, Redmi is ready to launch a second generation model that is reported to launch as the Redmi Pad 2. Renders and key specifications of the upcoming tablet, which will be a direct successor to the 2022 Redmi Pad, have now surfaced; and they reveal some interesting details as well as some disappointing ones.
First posted by Ytechb, the Redmi Pad 2 is shown to have a slim all-metal build like its predecessor. The tablet will also have rounded corners, a flat display, and a redesigned camera island. Redmi has ditched the rectangular camera island for a large pill-shaped one that protrudes slightly but still houses a single camera lens. The placements of the buttons haven't changed either. However, a welcome addition is the audio jack on the right side of the tablet, a feature that was surprisingly missing on the original.
With respect to specifications, the Redmi Pad 2 is reported to have a slightly larger 11-inch 90Hz display like the Redmi Pad SE (available on Amazon for $179.99) but with a sharper 1600 x 2500 resolution. Based on the renders, the display will be surrounded by moderately thick bezels on all four sides.
The Redmi Pad 2 will swap the Helio G99 processor of the previous generation for the Helio G100 Ultra, and it will be paired with either 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Redmi will also ship the Pad 2 with a larger 9,000mAh battery, but it will still charge at 18W.
The rear camera will remain an 8MP sensor but the front-facing camera has been downgraded to a 5MP sensor. The Redmi Pad 2 will retain its quad-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos, so it should be great for watching movies and shows like its predecessor.
According to the source, the Redmi Pad 2 will cost €229 for the base model while the 8GB RAM version will retail for €279. There's still no news of when it will be announced.
