The PlayStation TV was a short-lived console released in 2013 and discontinued a couple of years later. Now, it is rumored that Sony might be reviving it alongside its upcoming handheld.

In 2013, Sony released the now-discontinued PlayStation TV a.k.a. PlayStation Vita TV in Asia. Practically PlayStation's smallest TV console, it worked by plugging into a TV or monitor and allowed users to play PSP and (select) PS Vita titles. It could also stream games from the now-defunct PS Now streaming service and also had PS4 Remote Play functionality.

Now, an unconfirmed report says that Sony might be bringing back the PlayStation TV alongside the new handheld it is developing. The info comes from X user Zuby_Tech, but doesn't include any details about the device, thus leading to a lot of speculations, some of which are below.

The PlayStation TV had the guts of the PS Vita, so if Sony is indeed bringing it back, one can presume the new version will have similar specs as the PS6 handheld. However, there have been no details of any additional device in development alongside the PS6 and the new handheld.

Sony could also just be bringing back the branding and not a new hardware product. The PS6 handheld has been reported to feature a (TV) dock in a fashion similar to Nintendo's Switch and Switch 2 (available on Amazon for $499). It wouldn't be far-fetched if Sony were to use the PlayStation TV branding in relation to the handheld's dock mode or a related feature.

Notwithstanding, these are just speculations, and like the unconfirmed report of the return of PlayStation TV, it should be taken with a grain of salt until concrete evidence surfaces.
