Sudden Strike 4 is the latest installment in the long-running real-time strategy series set during World War II. The title is currently available on Steam at 85% off, marking its lowest price to date.

Sudden Strike was created by the Hungarian studio Fireglow Games and has been a defining name in historical real-time strategy since the release of the first game. A full decade after the third installment, fans finally received Sudden Strike 4 in 2017. It remains the most recent entry in the series and was developed for the first time by Kite Games, with Kalypso Media taking over publishing duties from CDV Entertainment. Much to the community’s relief, the new team managed to preserve the series’ signature gameplay.

The fourth installment blends classic real-time strategy with a World War II setting, powered by a modern 3D engine that still holds up visually today. For the first time, players can choose from different commanders with unique abilities, including historical figures such as George S. Patton and Bernard Montgomery. As in earlier entries, the focus is on large-scale battles rather than base building or resource management. Victory depends on smart tactics – from careful unit positioning to making effective use of available cover.

According to a review by the German gaming outlet GameStar, Sudden Strike 4 retains the familiar “every soldier counts” atmosphere of its predecessors, encouraging a careful and tactical playstyle. At the same time, it offers considerable freedom in how mission objectives are approached and, in the testers’ view, features a rewarding progression system. Criticism focuses primarily on the limited multiplayer content, which has been expanded over time but remains relatively modest. The editors also noted that additional story cutscenes would have been welcome. In the end, GameStar awarded the game 83 out of 100 points. On Steam, around 8,000 user reviews are 78% positive. On Metacritic, the title holds a Metascore of 70, alongside a User Score of 7.6. The game is listed as “Playable” on the Steam Deck (available on Amazon for $949).

85% off on Steam for the first time

Sudden Strike 4 usually sells for around $20 on Steam. With the current deal, however, players can save 85% on the base game for the first time, reducing the price to roughly $3. According to SteamDB, the previous highest discount was 80%. Several DLC packs are available, so anyone seeking the full experience will need to spend a bit more. The Complete Edition normally costs around $45 but is currently 70% off, dropping the price to $13.67.

Sequel on the Horizon

Sudden Strike 5 is set for release in 2026 and aims to take the series to a new level with even larger battlefields and more than 300 playable units, making it the most expansive entry so far. A playable demo is already available on Steam.
