SteamWorld Heist adds a refreshing twist to turn-based strategy and has received strong praise from the community. Until March 11, the game is 93% off on Steam, reducing the price to just around $1.

In SteamWorld Heist, players step into the shoes of pirate captain Piper Faraday and explore a post-apocalyptic galaxy alongside a quirky crew of steam-powered robots. As they carry out raids and daring boarding missions, a dark threat begins to emerge, putting the fate of the entire galaxy at stake.

In terms of gameplay, the title builds on 2D turn-based tactics in the style of XCOM: Enemy Unknown but adds its own creative spin. The standout feature is the so-called trick shot system: instead of relying on percentage-based hit chances, players aim manually. This enables spectacular moves, with bullets ricocheting off walls and even hitting enemies behind cover. Light RPG elements round out the experience. Each crew member has a distinct class and weapon loadout, and between missions they can be upgraded with improved gear. In its review, the German gaming magazine PC Games awarded SteamWorld Heist a strong 8 out of 10. The editors particularly praised the well-balanced mix of demanding turn-based tactics and the creative trick shot system. With a playtime of around 12 to 18 hours, the overall scope was also considered a plus. Most of the criticism centered on the mission design, which can feel repetitive in the later stages of the game.

On Metacritic, the game holds a Metascore of 86 alongside a slightly lower user score of 7.6. The response on Steam is even more enthusiastic: 93% of more than 6,200 user reviews are positive.

93% discount on Steam

SteamWorld Heist usually sells for around $15 on Steam. Until March 11, however, a 93% discount drops the price to $1.04. According to SteamDB, this matches the previous all-time low, last recorded in early January. The game is also rated "Verified" for the Steam Deck(available on Amazon for $735), meaning it runs smoothly on the handheld.
