Steam addresses issue misrepresenting VRAM data in hardware surveys

Steam's hardware surveys have long represented one of the most comprehensive windows into the exciting PC gaming ecosystem, providing curious folks with a monthly peek into the CPUs, GPUs, RAM, VRAM, and other system configuration details donned by their gaming peers.
In a recent beta update for the Steam Client, Valve stated that certain issues were addressed which affected VRAM reporting, indicating that earlier surveys may have suffered from misreported data. Moreover, for systems with multiple GPUs, Steam will now only report the GPU with the most amount of VRAM.
For instance, January 2026 results indicated that a whopping 29.57% of gaming rigs were equipped with 8 GB of VRAM, which does seem like a rather large number. Unfortunately, Steam did not clarify the extent to which the bugs may have affected the reported data.
Considering that this is only a Beta update, gamers will have to wait longer before seeing any changes in reported data. In other words, the numbers for the February 2026 Steam hardware survey will likely still be affected by the VRAM bug.
