Devil Daggers II revealed ten years later as Sorath revives one of Steam’s hardest arena shooters

The decade-old indie arena shooter, infamous for its brutal difficulty, was released on 18 February 2016 and is finally getting a sequel. The announcement came exactly ten years after Devil Daggers arrived on Steam.
Sorath, the developer behind Devil Daggers, which amassed a cult-like following, delivered the news in the most casual way possible. On the game’s 10th anniversary, the developer casually published a Steam post.
Titled “Celebrating 10 years!”, developer Sorath stated:
“A huge thank you to the 350,000 people who played Devil Daggers over the last 10 years! And a special shout-out to the 1,472 who reached 500 seconds. Today seems like a good day to announce that we are working hard on Devil Daggers II. Stay tuned.”
Sorath has remained tight-lipped about the development progress of Devil Daggers II, as the developer hasn’t released any screenshots, new features, or a release window. Even now, Sorath only confirmed that the original nightmarish shooter is coming back.
For those who haven’t tried out Devil Daggers, it’s a gritty, low-poly arena shooter. Players wake up in a pitch-black arena with the ability to throw nothing but an infinite number of daggers. As the game starts, flying skulls pour in alongside centipedes, giant worms, and orbs.
The difficulty spikes so fast that most Devil Daggers runs end in a mere two minutes. A taunting timer sits at the top right of the screen, while the arena quickly fills to the brim with waves of swarming enemies.
Out of the 350,000 players that have tried to take on Devil Daggers, only 1,472 survived past the 500-second mark, which is just over eight minutes. Many who achieved this milestone celebrated their runs on YouTube.
However, the world records kept piling up until eventually whysotp published their run of 1272.0891 seconds, or just over 21 minutes, on YouTube on 21 July 2025. However, this world record wasn’t achieved without practice, as whysotp has invested over 2,000 hours into Devil Daggers.
Sorath, on the other hand, has kept the game alive to this day with occasional updates and even released a spiritual successor, Hyper Demon, in 2022. It also carries the 'playable' tag on Valve's Steam Deck platform for those looking to try it out on the go. For those looking for a new experience, however, Devil Daggers II is now in play, despite Sorath not revealing any details at the time of writing.
