LG has been out of the smartphone business since 2021 but it promised to continue providing support for eligible devices for a few more years. Since a bit of time has passed since those devices, such as the LG Wing, have received the last of the promised updates, LG has now announced it is shutting down its update servers and PC app by the end of June 2025.
The software update servers allow users to download updates for their devices. However, once the servers are shut down, this will be impossible. This is therefore a last call for owners of LG devices that have been stalling on updating their smartphones to do so, as the servers will be shut down on June 30, 2025.
LG is also pulling the plug on the LG Bridge PC software that allows users to connect their LG smartphone to their PCs and create or restore backups via USB. The LG Bridge program, which is available on Windows and Mac, also allows users to upgrade their phone's software via USB. Since the update servers are shutting down, the program wouldn't be able to download and install updates onto connected devices.
The decision to shut down the servers and PC program is the final nail in the coffin for LG's mobile arm.
