LG UltraGear 27GR95UM: Mini LED gaming monitor quietly launches globally with early firmware fix for local dimming and halo issues
LG has quietly started selling the UltraGear 27GR95UM globally. To recap, the company has been selling the gaming monitor in China since mid-December where it retails for CNY 9,999 (~$1,390). Seemingly, the UltraGear 27GR95UM arrived at the end of January 2024 in the US, albeit without any official announcements to that effect.
Additionally, while LG lists a $1,299.99 MSRP on its website, it appears that the monitor did not debut at that price. Based on a lengthy Reddit thread, the UltraGear 27GR95UM arrived for $799.99 before briefly rising to its MSRP. However, LG is now selling the monitor for $899.99. In summary, the UltraGear 27GR95UM combines a 4K resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate with 1,560 Mini LED backlight zones.
Moreover, the monitor offers AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support, 1 ms GtG response times and 99% DCI-P3 colour space coverage. Although that may sound promising, it is worth noting that there were numerous complaints from early adopters of local dimming issues, which YouTuber 'Little Snowman' covers in the video below. Supposedly, LG has resolved these problems with firmware version 3.05.2.02, which officially 'addresses...local dimming and halo issues'. Please see LG's website and our launch article for more details.
