Reviews for the LG G8s ThinQ
The LG G8S ThinQ has arrived late to the party, but it still brings a flagship SoC, a large OLED display, a ToF camera and a 3,550 mAh battery. The G8S ThinQ may have fancy camera tech, but it is otherwise a fairly run-of-the-mill flagship. However, read on to find out why we still think highly of LG’s latest attempt to disrupt the established order.

The LG G8s ThinQ is a phone that seems like a missed opportunity as it had the potential to bring the South Korean tech giant back in the reckoning. Its design seems stuck in the past and the display is just about satisfactory. Performance wise you won’t have any complaints as it is the case with the camera. But it lacks the X-factor or that one compelling reason to buy it. At Rs 35,990, it faces really tough competition from OnePlus, which has its loyal set of fan following and keeps offering great features. LG G8s ThinQ doesn’t tick all the boxes perfectly and in this competitive space, brands can’t afford to do that anymore. It’s time for LG to do some serious thinking if it’s really serious about people talking and about buying the ThinQ series of phones.

Despite all the bloat though, camera quality is genuinely very good. If that's what matters most to you, the LG G8s wouldn't be bad phone to buy. On the other hand, if you value gaming-grade performance, a high-end display, great battery life, or cutting-edge design, you should look elsewhere.

Priced at Rs 35,990, the LG G8s ThinQ is a midrange smartphone that could be considered for comprehensive imaging capabilities and sleek performance. However, its dated design and small screen estate might irk some. If so, you might like to check the OnePlus 7T, Oppo Reno 2 and Asus ROG Phone II before making a decision.

Yes, for a unique smartphone experience that ticks all the boxes and gives some features which others don’t have. This is a smartphone that has maybe the best selfie camera, a good triple camera rig at the back, smooth overall performance and some gimmicky features that will make you standout.

But then there is other side to it. The camera could have been better. The display is dull in strong sunlight. The gesture navigation needs a lot of work. And the price is too high. This is the price at which phones like the OnePlus 7T sell. Then there are the devices like the iPhone XR, which too are around the similar price point in various sales. Against these phones, the G8s ThinQ looks overpriced.

Wait a few months, shave off a couple hundred dollars and the LG G8S ThinQ starts to look pretty good. Then, again, the same could probably be said for most of LG's smartphones nowadays.

Relatively speaking, at R11 999, the LG G8s ThinQ is good value for money. It looks like a flagship phone, has above-par performance and an all-round camera setup which adds up to an experience better than most premium mid-range phones on the market.

The LG G8S ThinQ is a competent flagship smartphone, but when a superior sibling in the LG G8 exists with a better screen, slicker design and new speaker technology you can't help but look past the G8S.

Model: LG has made an announcement on the next upcoming line-up of its proud G series with one of the most touted smartphone models to date – the LG G8s ThinQ. It is the companion model to the original LG G8 ThinQ smartphone device but the G8s gears up on improved specifications and features, thus undeniably rendering the G8s the premium version of the series.
The LG G8s ThinQ features a unique triple rear camera setup, which has undoubtedly begged a lot of questions from its target audience. What comes immediately into attention is the unique camera setup arrangement on the rear side of the phone. The landscape alignment of the rear camera introduces a whole new take on how the pictures are supposed to be taken. With a unique ensemble of a 12-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens, users need not to fret about the quality of the pictures production other than staging for a perfect snapshot. Aside from a distinctive take on rear camera module, the LG G8s ThinQ also comes equipped with a 8-megapixel front-facing camera designed to take selfies.
The front side of the LG G8s ThinQ is a rather controversial topic of discussion in the tech-savvy community. The G8s presents itself with a 6.2 inches OLED front display that supports Full HD+ resolution of 1.080 x 2.248 pixels. This specification is considered rather impressive for a device of its size. The display notch not only houses the aforementioned 8-megapixel front-facing camera, but also a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) sensor in tandem with the Hand ID security feature. The enabling of hand gestures to be detected has paved way for Air Motion technology. With the implementation of the Air Motion feature in the LG G8s ThinQ, users can now simply wave a hand or pinch the air in front of the front camera setup in order to make phone calls. This is a quality-of-life convenience that would most certainly appeal to certain demographic.
However, the notched frontal design leaves very little to be desired among the global audience all around the world. Not only the representation of the LG G8s ThinQ depicted itself as generally mundane-looking, its relatively boring and dull aesthetic design is not doing any of its outstanding features any justice. The LG G8s ThinQ would only appear to look rather insignificant when displayed on a shelf space filled with other competing smartphones. The G8s ThinQ’s overall appearance is not captivating at all, and it is not exactly an attraction point worth mentioning. The LG G8s ThinQ is brimming with unending possibilities if a few more steps for extra mile were taken, but alas, it is nonetheless another wasted potential drifting about in the competitive scene of the smartphone industry.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

LG Electronics Inc. is a subsidiary of LG Group. It is a South Korean company and was founded as Goldstar Co, Ltd, in 1958. The group offers products in the fields of information technology, consumer electronics and mobile communications, and home appliances. LG Electronics is the world's third largest home appliance manufacturer. As a notebook manufacturer, LG only became known to a wider audience in the German-speaking market in 2005. 78.7%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
