LG is set to release the Android Oreo update to its last-gen flagships. The company launched the Software Update Center a while ago in a bid to improve its software update culture, and it would seem that the G6 will be the first device to enjoy those benefits, with the device expected to receive the update today
The G6 will not be the only LG device to get Android Oreo. Reports claim that the G5 and V20 are also set to receive their updates, albeit at a later date. The V20, in particular, leaves a sour aftertaste in our mouths. The device was launched towards the tail end of 2016 on Android 7.0 Nougat—the first device to do so, in fact—but is yet to receive any major update at all, not even the one to Android 7.1.
While that sin is unlikely to ever be forgiven by V20 users—most claim they don't even receive security updates—the device getting the Oreo update could be a sign that LG has finally had a change in its attitude towards software support.
The G6's Oreo update rollout is expected to begin today, likely in the company's home South Korea. It is unknown when US models will get theirs.
