Samsung and Apple might command the most press coverage with their flagship smartphones, but don't forget there are other games in town. You can think of the LG G6 as the "other other" flagship smartphone, and right now you can get this slim-bezeled competitor of the Galaxy S8 from a Top Rated Plus eBay seller for only US$420 — over US$200 cheaper than best price you can get for the S8.
The LG G6 stacks up pretty well against the S8: The G6 has a 5.7-inch IPS LCD with thin bezels on the top and bottom, making for a roughly 80 percent screen-to-body ratio, and also has a similar aspect ratio to allow for split-screen usage. The 561 PPI display supports HDR and is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass just as the S8's. The G6 might not have those beautiful curved edges of the S8, but its because of this that it beats out the S8 for durability. Unlike the S8, the G6 boasts MIL-STD-810 certification as it is water, dust, and shock resistant. The fingerprint scanner is in better location on the G6, and it boasts a slightly larger battery as well.
What gives for the price difference, then? The main difference between the two is the Snapdragon 821 SoC in the G6 versus the 835 in the S8. The 821 might be last year's chipset, but it's still a great performer. The G6 also has Bluetooth 4.2 rather than 5 and USB 2.0 rather than the S8's USB 3.1. Still, the G6 is a close match for the S8, and at US$420, it's a no-brainer.
