Asustor has launched the Lockerstor Gen2+ NAS lineup, consisting of 2-bay, 4-bay, and 6-bay systems. The 6-bay variant can house a whopping 212 TB of storage, including 32 TB of solid-state storage via M.2 slots. Pricing details are also out, which have been discussed later.
At its core, the Lockerstor Gen2+ NAS family is powered by the Intel Celeron N5105 CPU with four cores and four threads. The processor sports a modest base clock of 2 GHz, and a single-core boost clock of 2.9 GHz.
Having been launched over four years ago, the N5105 chip has definitely started showing its age, although performance should be decent for a home NAS system. A maximum 16 GB of DDR4-2933 memory is supported.
Dual 5 Gbps Ethernet, with room for 10 Gbps networking
Needless to say, networking prowess is most certainly a crucial aspect of any NAS system. The Asustor Lockerstor Gen2+ sports dual 5 Gbps Ethernet ports, which should be more than enough for most use cases. Thanks to SMB multichannel, a maximum total throughput of 10 Gbps is possible. Customers can also install a 10 Gbps networking card in the vacant PCIe slot.
As mentioned, the Lockerstor Gen2+ will be available with two, four, and six drive bays which can house 2.5" and 3.5" drives. Four M.2 slots are present with tool-free installation and support for PCIe 3.0 drives, which should be great for caching. All together, the maximum supported capacity is an impressive 212 TB.
The ports on offer include dual USB 3.2 Gen2, USB 2.0, and an HDMI 2.0b port. Pricing details are as follows:
- Lockerstor 2 Gen2+ (2-bay, 4 GB memory): $469.99
- Lockerstor 4 Gen2+ (4-bay, 4 GB memory): $619.99
- Lockerstor 6 Gen2+ (6-bay, 8 GB memory): $819.99
Possible alternative: Ugreen DXP4800 (4-bay, 10G) currently on sale at $559.99 on Amazon.
