Intel announces Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus desktop processors: Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus unveiled

Intel is expanding its desktop portfolio with the new Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors for gamers and content creators. Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus offer more cores, higher clock speeds, and faster DDR5 memory support. In addition, new optimization features improve the performance of modern games and applications.

Today Intel announces the launch of its new desktop processors and presents the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus series for the first time. With the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus models, the manufacturer is targeting demanding gamers, content creators, and PC enthusiasts who are looking for maximum performance, modern memory technologies, and a future-proof platform. The new CPUs combine a higher core count, increased clock speeds, and software-based optimization technologies to significantly accelerate both gaming performance and productivity applications.

Compared to the previous top models, Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and Intel Core Ultra 5 245K, Intel is increasing the number of efficiency cores and boosting the maximum chip frequency by up to 900 MHz. These measures mainly improve multi-threaded applications such as video rendering, 3D production, streaming, or software compilation, while at the same time increasing single-core performance for modern gaming engines. Due to the higher internal clocking between the computing cores, cache, and memory controller, systems also benefit from lower latencies and faster data processing, which is particularly noticeable in CPU-limited games.

A central technological highlight is the new Intel Binary Optimization Tool. This optimization technology works at the binary level and analyzes application instruction sequences to execute instructions more efficiently per clock cycle. This allows performance reserves to be tapped without developers having to adapt their software. This approach is particularly relevant for games that were originally optimized for older x86 architectures or alternative platforms. Console ports and specialized creative software can also benefit from the improved execution as existing code paths are used more intelligently.

The new processors support faster DDR5 memory with up to 7,200 MT/s natively and even enable up to 8,000 MT/s with full warranty via BIOS overclocking. In addition, 4-rank CUDIMM modules with particularly high memory capacity are supported for the first time, combining high bandwidth with low latency. Mainboards with Intel 800 chipsets remain compatible, enabling simple CPU upgrades. The respective manufacturers already offer suitable BIOS versions with support for the latest Core Ultra 200S Plus. This means that the new ones remain fully compatible with existing mainboards from the 800 chipset series. Further new motherboard models with extended memory functions are expected in the course of 2026.

Prices and availability

The new Intel processors will be released on March 26, 2026, and are available both individually in stores and in complete systems from leading OEM and system integrator partners. The recommended retail price starts at 299 US dollars for the top model and 199 US dollars for the smaller version. Intel is thus clearly positioning the Core Ultra 200S Plus series in the highly competitive market for gaming CPUs and creator processors.
