The HyperMaker is a new 3D printer that promises exceptionally high-resolution results and ultrafine detail reproduction. Notable features include a built-in camera for real-time monitoring and a UV light control system designed to minimise stray light.

3D printers can be divided into two broad categories based on their working principles: Fused deposition modelling (FDM) involves heating a filament and then extruding it onto a workpiece to build an object. The other method, called stereolithography (SLA), uses light to cure photosensitive resin. The HyperMaker is one such SLA 3D printer, currently featured in an ongoing Kickstarter campaign. Prices for the system start at $1,500 with an early bird discount applied. Nevertheless, potential backers should be mindful of the financial risks associated with crowdfunding campaigns and review the shipping terms and conditions before purchase.

One of the HyperMaker’s standout features is its ability to produce exceptionally high-resolution 3D prints, boasting an XY pixel size of 14 x 19 µm. High-res resin printers like this are well suited to creating small, highly detailed models, such as figurines. The built-in 10.1-inch LCD offers a resolution of 15,120 x 6,230 pixels and emits light at a wavelength of 405 nm. The printer is also equipped with a unique system that minimises stray light, helping to improve overall print quality.

According to the manufacturer, the HyperMaker can lift up the workpiece and stir the resin after each layer to ensure thorough mixing, though it's unclear whether this process is truly necessary. The device boasts a build volume of 211.68 x 118.37 x 200 mm (8.33 x 4.66 x 7.87 in) and print speeds ranging from 30 to 100 mm/h, referring to how fast a model grows along the Z-axis. Layer thickness is adjustable between 0.025 and 0.2 mm. Numerous practical features are also available, including a camera for real-time monitoring, a touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB, and a built-in activated carbon filter to protect users from harmful emissions.
