Huawei's P40 series of premium smartphones is having an erratic 2021 follow-up, to say the least. It, like its predecessor, has been said to launch in vanilla, Pro and Pro+ forms in August of this year; however, the latest word is that it will take the stage on July 29 instead. However, it will do so as a base model only.
The latest rumors are that the OEM has in fact secured Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processors for this "vanilla P50", albeit with the compromise that the chipsets in question have no 5G support, as they do in most other 2021 flagship phones.
On the other hand, there is nothing to say that Huawei will not debut a P50 Pro in August 2021. The latest word on this device is that it will initially come off its production line with the last of Huawei's stash of Kirin 9000 processors, but will switch to the putative P50's 4G Snapdragon 888 platform by December as those in-house SoCs run out.
