The Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro, which we have previously reviewed, has received a new software update. Designated as firmware version 5.1.0.121, the update is 27.57 MB, making it quite a large download: it contains not only bug fixes but also several new features. For example, there is the new Health Insights app, which is intended to provide comprehensive analyses of multidimensional health data.
In concrete terms, the Huawei Watch 4 Pro does not collect any new health data, but attempts to analyze it in a more tangible way and to identify trends so that users are more informed about their overall health. The app is not an additional app for the smartphone, but an app for the watch itself.
The update also makes greater use of the microphone, now allowing for the recording of voice memos directly on the watch. This eliminates the need to have the smartphone at hand and enables users, for example, to make notes or set reminders when on the go. The screen display brightness is now automatically adjusted during certain activities, which is certainly advantageous when running and the user is unable to manually adjust the brightness without stopping first.
I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.
