Huawei rolls out January 2023 software updates for Watch GT 2 and Watch GT 2 Pro smartwatches
Huawei has released new updates for the global versions of the Watch GT 2 and Watch GT 2 Pro. for reference, Huawei announced the Watch GT 2 Pro in autumn 2020, a year after releasing the Watch GT 2. Hence, it is surprising to see the pair enter another year of software updates, especially as Huawei has since moved onto pre-installing HarmonyOS on its smartwatches.
Regardless, the Watch GT 2 has received firmware version 11.0.17.6, approximately a 75 MB download. By contrast, Huawei is rolling out firmware version 11.0.11.6 to the Watch GT 2 Pro, the download size of which is unknown at this stage. Unfortunately, the changelog is rather sparse this month in both cases. Huawei only claims to have optimised system stability in certain scenarios, albeit without providing any information about these changes or what Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) have been addressed.
As always, both updates can be downloaded through the Huawei Health app. Please note that you should only attempt to update your smartwatch with it charging; updating it with a low remaining battery percentage could cause hardware issues. It could take several hours for the update to finish up too, unlike smartphone OS updates. Huawei has not confirmed when either smartwatch will cease receiving software updates yet, either.
