Huawei announces CE-certified on-wrist blood pressure monitoring for Watch D and ECG for Watch GT 3 Pro in over 30 European countries
Huawei has announced major updates for the Watch GT 3 Pro and the Watch D, its latest flagship smartwatches. Announced earlier this year, the Watch GT 3 Pro debuted alongside the Band 7 and the Watch FIT 2, as well as confirmation that Huawei would release the Watch D outside China. As we subsequently reported, Huawei confirmed that the Watch D would not arrive in Europe or the UK with its blood pressure monitoring or ECG capabilities enabled, with the former being a major Watch D selling point.
This also applies to the Watch GT 3 Pro, but it can only take an electrocardiogram (ECG) and not measure blood pressure levels. In short, the company failed to obtain the relevant CE certification to enable either feature in Europe and the UK. Now, it has announced that ECG capabilities will be enabled via a Huawei ECG App, for which it has now received CE certification.
In a press release, the company reports that the app has obtained access from 33 European countries. While Huawei does not specify which countries these are, we suspect they include all EU member states, the UK, EEA member states and Switzerland. Please note that both smartwatches feature 1-band ECG, which only has limited medical significance and is about as accurate as the Apple Watch Series 7 or Apple Watch Series 8.
Currently, Huawei hopes to start selling the Watch D in Europe and the UK from October, details of which you can find in our most recent article. Huawei has not confirmed full details of its ECG App rollout yet, although it claims that some units should have already started receiving the app, including those sold in China, Colombia, Thailand and New Zealand.
