Reviews for the Huawei Mate 30 Pro

Huawei Mate 30 Pro
Source: PC Mag English
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is a promising Android phone hampered by a lack of Google apps and services. And you probably won't be able to find it.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro review: The best phone you shouldn't buy
Source: Android Central English
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is a great phone, with a versatile camera system, stunning waterfall display and fantastic battery life. There's a huge problem, though: it doesn't officially support Google services right now, so no one should buy this.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro review
Source: Techradar English
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is a victim of circumstance, but at the end of the day, it’s still an incomplete smartphone until it gets access to Google Play services. As it stands, therefore, while the phone features class-leading everything, we can’t in good faith recommend anyone outside China buy it unless you’re comfortable with the idea of sideloading apps, or are actively seeking a Google-free experience.

Huawei’s Mate 30 Pro straight out of the box - First Impressions *updated*

It’s unfortunate that Google services have become so synonymous with Android that a (Android) phone without Google doesn’t seem complete, but the fact is that there are many other parts to this open source system that work well regardless.

All things said and done, the Mate 30 Pro looks and feels like a slice of the future. It’s bold, is arguably the best-looking phone of its generation, has a champion of a camera, stacks of power and an engulfing screen.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro Review
Source: Trusted Reviews English
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is a high-performing flagship handset that has a breath-taking camera and an enduring battery. Minor flaws in the interface and screen quality are not deal-breakers of themselves, but the lack of Google apps on this phone (currently with no authorised workaround) make it impossible to recommend this phone.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is one heck of a smartphone. The gargantuan feat in the photo and video department alone makes it an impressive flagship device. Couple that with a beautiful design, impressive performance, great display, and battery life, then you would not think of even ask for more.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro Review
Source: PC Advisor English
Huawei's Mate 30 Pro is unsurprisingly potent on paper and the new focus on video from the camera experience seems like a smart move, rather than simply building on the P30 Pro's zoom capabilities. In almost every regard the phone has the ability to take on every other flagship smartphone of the moment but with the company's current predicament, it might not even get the chance.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro: The new low light master
Source: Hardware Zone English
Make no mistake, the Mate 30 Pro’s camera system is certainly a revolutionary one. By smartly incorporating two larger-than-usual sensors, Huawei has created a video-focused counterpart to the P30 Pro’s obvious photography focus ones. And the results are equally impressive. Colours are accurate, and the camera adjusts for changing exposures quickly and accurately so you no longer have the issue of colours being drastically different when moving from one camera to another. From what we’ve seen, the larger sensor of the Ultra-wide Cine camera definitely makes a difference in terms of low light capture and sensitivity. If anything, the improved slow-motion capture mode has no equal among other smartphones in the market, so that certainly puts it one rung above the rest. We’d love to see how it compares to the camera modules on other recently released smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ and the iPhone 11 Pro Max, but that will have to come in a later article after the Pixel 4 gets launched too.

85% Huawei Mate 30 Pro camera review: Low-light king!
Source: Android Authority English
The success of the Mate 20 Pro set an incredibly high bar for Huawei to clear, and I think the company managed it by the skin of their teeth. This phone doesn’t tick every box: video still has a ways to go, but the awesome detail and insane low-light performance make this my go-to when I want to take an image. If Huawei manages to fix its video issues, they could be in line for the best camera on any smartphone.

But there's no escaping the fact that with no Play Store on board and only partial Google app functionality, the Mate 30 Pro can't be recommended for anyone outside of China. In fact, actively avoiding it would be the only sensible advice. The moment Google gets the license to provide products and services to Huawei will be the moment this phone will become a true all-rounder. And you should run to the nearest store and get one - but only then. Until then, stick to the other options, there are plenty.

Source: Android Authority English
You have to hand it to Huawei. It could’ve made the Mate 30 Pro cheaper. There’s nothing like a nice discount to help justify a purchase. However, the Mate 30 Pro is actually more expensive than its predecessor, and on par with its biggest competitors. The message is clear: this is a genuine, unapologetic flagship phone. We do not doubt that the Mate 30 Pro camera sets new standards – it aims to be the smartphone camera king. So much so that DxOMark has had to introduce new categories such as Wide, Ultra-wide and Night scores as each manufacturer adds its take to the camera.

In the face of the white-hot mobile phone market, Huawei has its own strong core competitiveness and has been recognized by more and more high-end people. The voice of the high-end market is becoming stronger and stronger. At the same time, with the continuous innovation of Huawei Mate 30 series in the field of cameras, Huawei will occupy more high-end markets in its own self-breakthrough.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro front camera review
Source: DxOMark English
With an overall DXOMARK Selfie score of 93, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro makes it into the top five in our current ranking and delivers images with good exposure and color as well as a nice texture/noise trade-off in most conditions. The fixed-focus lens means that the camera is not ideal for close-range and selfie-stick shots, and video clips could do with slightly better stabilization, but the Mate 30 Pro is capable of recording decent still and video selfies overall. This said, if the front camera is a top priority for you, some better options are available.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro camera review
Source: DxOMark English
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro’s overall DXOMARK Camera score of 121 sets an impressive new benchmark for smartphone camera performance and is the device to beat in the second half of 2019. The new Mate does not show any real weaknesses in the camera department and delivers good still image and video quality in most situations. Its photo quality is very good across the board, but its texture/noise balance is truly outstanding, with excellent detail rendering in almost all conditions while keeping image noise at low levels. The wide-angle camera’s comparatively narrow field of view could be a criticism, but the wide-angle cam delivers good image quality; moreover, the Mate 30 Pro is one of the best for bokeh and zoom as well.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro review: The incredible phone you won't buy
Source: Pocket Lint English
While this is an incredible smartphone for all it does with cameras, battery life and design, the lack of Google apps out of the box is a massive problem. How can stores, networks, or we recommend it against the P30 Pro or a competitor? It'll be a surefire success in China, but unless something dramatic changes then the Mate 30 Pro just doesn't make sense for a Google-commited audience. That's the sad truth.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro hands-on review
Source: Stuff TV English
Huawei pushes smartphone innovation beyond what we need or realise we even wanted, but not even ridiculously good photos and bewildering slow motion video can distract from the biggest issue here. In the face of adversity, Huawei has almost knocked it out the park, the proverbial ball is flying through the sky, but it looks like its heading into one of the fielder's hands. A lot of success comes down to being in the right place at the right time, which is the opposite case for the Mate 30 Pro. At this stage, don’t go chasing waterfalls, because the Mate’s future is looking uncertain.

I've been using a Chinese 4G Huawei Mate 30 Pro (model LIO-AL00), which, like all Huawei's phones sold in mainland China, lack any Google services. This phone isn't entirely representative of what Western markets will get when the Mate arrives on European shores; likely the China-specific apps will be swapped out for local alternatives, should Huawei still be unable to preload Google's apps and services.

Huawei is set to launch the Mate 30 Pro in October, starting with China and a few select European countries. Other EU areas will come through Q4. Huawei will make other announcements about the Middle East and Latin America in due course, but has promised to release it there as well. Also upcoming is the 5G version, which is likely to show up further into Q4, at least in China to begin with. The 8 GB/256 GB model will retail for 1099 Euro, with the 5G version having the same specifications for 1199 Euro.

From our brief hands-on, this feels like a top performing handset, with very impressive photographic and hardware capabilities. The key problem is in the software, or lack of it: without Google apps, this will be a tough sell to the general market. Huawei Mate 30 Pro initial review: The incredible phone you won't buy
Source: Pocket Lint English
The Mate 30 Pro is a fantastically designed smartphone. The camera is superb. The design is a decent progression from the Mate 20 Pro, and we like pretty much everything about it. But there's a massive problem with it that shouldn't be underestimated: The lack of Google apps is a big problem. How can stores, networks, or we recommend it against the P30 Pro or a competitor? As enthusiasts of tech, that makes us very sad, but it is the truth. Such bad news can probably only be mitigated by a low price. But with 799 Euros set as the current cost - and no UK price yet whatsoever - we can't see how Huawei can sell this phone in Europe effectively.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro Review: Hands-on
Source: PC Advisor English
An extremely-capable all-rounder, Huawei has ensured that the Mate 30 Pro has the hardware innovation to tackle even the most potent competitors on the market. Its quad-camera may change the tide of video capture superiority against Apple, the new Kirin chipset will be able to outpace most of the current silicon on the market and phone battery and fast-charging chops mean it'll outlast most other phones out there. But outside of China, all of that effort will likely have been for nought, with the lack of Google Play Services tainting the user experience. If and when the US government revokes its ban, Huawei is ready to reinstate this much-needed features but until that point, this otherwise excellent-looking phone will likely be passed up for less politically volatile alternatives.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro will not come with Google Android. As GadgetGuy Val Quinn reported from IFA Future Huawei Phones will still run Android (sort of). Mate 30 Pro Review in Progress: Blessed and Cursed

Yes, the cameras are fantastic, and the screen looks beautiful, but without the Play Store, multiple tasks on the Mate 30 become much more difficult than they should be on a 2019 smartphone. It’s exciting to pick up and use briefly, but without this day-to-day convenience, for now you should probably leave the Mate 30 on the store shelf.

Model: The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is a smartphone that claims to be the breakthrough of visual boundaries, the exploration of photography and videography, the liberation of power and speed, and the innovation of interaction by Huawei. As for design, Huawei has created the image of wild nature with sophisticated design. The colors radiate in every light and shadow reflecting the splendid milky way, graceful violet, treasured emerald and mysterious night. Color options available are Orange, Forest Green, Cosmic Purple, Space Silver, Emerald Green and Black. Expanding from edge to edge, the ultra-curved screen extends the horizon for an ultimate immersive viewing experience. The encircled glass with 88-degree ultra curves gives users a natural touch and hold in the palm of your hand. More than a piece of artwork, it is pursuing the balance of aesthetics and comfort. The ultra-curved screen edges offer a wider area for interactions, which also replace the physical buttons for a seamless design. Users can naturally adjust the volume or enjoy quad-finger game control with this innovative side-touch interaction. The quad-camera of the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G is embraced by the halo ring. It is a perfect fusion of reflection and refraction. The 40 MP Cine Camera and 40 MP SuperSensing Camera allows users to record Ultra-Low-Light, Ultra-Slow Motion and Ultra-Wide-Angle-Time-lapse videos. The 8 MP Telephoto Camera has 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and up to 30x digital zoom feature. It will bring the far-away surprises to user’s eyes. Furthermore, the 3D Depth Sensing Camera brings professional Bokeh effects to portrait photos and videos.

Inherited by the powerful DNA of Mate, the battery is upgraded to 4,500 mAh (typical value), which can easily support one-day requirement. Benefit from the chipset’s improved power efficiency and intelligent power management system to power up even longer than before. Fast charge is also available via HUAWEI SuperCharge. As the world’s 1st flagship 5G SoC powered by 7nm+ EUV2, the Kirin 990 5G achieved significant performance with lower power consumption. It supports SA and NSA network architectures, peak download speed and wide frequencies of FDD and TDD. The brand new architecture of Big-Core plus Tiny-Core NPU vastly improves AI capability for intelligent life. Paired with 8 GB RAM + 256 GB ROM, the Mate 30 Pro ensure maximum performance, even in multitasking and gaming. Conclusively, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro has great design, camera, performance and battery life. However, the lack of Google Apps in the smartphone might set off some users who uses Google apps on their phone heavily.

ARM Mali-G76 MP16: Integrated graphics card based on the second generation of the Bifrost architecture. Uses 16 of the 20 possible clusters and according to ARM offers twice the performance per cluster than the old Mali-G72. It is used in the Kirin 990 5G and according to Huawei should be about 6% faster and 20% more efficient than a Adreno 640 in a Snapdragon 855. Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
