Huami launches Amazfit T-Rex sports smartwatch in India for US$132: Galaxy Gear competitor with MIL-STD-810 ruggedness, Bluetooth 5.0, always-on AMOLED, and 20-day battery
Huami recently launched the Huami Amazfit T-Rex smartwatch in India for INR 9,999 (approx. US$132). This sport-oriented watch features MIL-STD-810 ruggedness and was designed for sports enthusiasts. This means that the T-Rex features the same degree of durability as watches like the Samsung Gear Sport and Galaxy Watch 3, while being tougher than the Huawei Watch GT.
The Amazfit T-Rex runs neither Wear OS nor WatchOS. However, the T-Rex supports both iPhones and Android devices, with high-speed Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. You do miss out on support for third party apps, but this is offset to a large extent by the Amzfit T-Rex's out-of-the-box experience.
The T-Rex features a 1.3-inch always-on AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Users get access to a whole host of activity tracking options, including sleep monitoring, heart rate monitoring, 14 modes for different sports. The 390 mAh battery lasts for up to 20 days on a single charge. MIL-STD-810 compliance is a major selling point here and that means a couple things: the Amazfit T-Rex can operate at temperatures between -40 degrees Celsius and 70 degrees. It should work reasonably fine on Mars, at least in the summer.
Compared to the Apple Watch and Wear OS watches, the lack of third-party apps is a let-down. However, if you're focused on the sports experience, the Amazfit T-Rex delivers value at US$132, with a long-lasting battery and extreme durability.
