Helldivers 2: New game announced – but not as expected
The battle for Super Earth continues, but not as some might expect. In a playful X post on March 13, it was announced that the intense co-op action of the hit shooter Helldivers 2 is making the jump to the tabletop.
The board game is being developed by Steamforged Games in partnership with Arrowhead Game Studios, the creators of Helldivers. Steamforged is well-known among board game fans, having already brought video game franchises like Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry to the tabletop. Helldivers 2: The Board Game will be a cooperative tactical action game for 1-4 players, where an elite Helldivers unit battles alien threats and completes missions. The developers aim to recreate the cinematic action of the original, bringing its intense gameplay to a new format.
Skepticism on Reddit
The Reddit community remains largely skeptical about the announcement, mainly due to Steamforged Games' mixed reputation. Critics argue that the studio prioritizes miniatures over gameplay balance, which has led to concerns about the game's quality. However, some Redditors are cautiously optimistic, hoping the board game will focus on the tactical depth of the video game rather than just being a showcase for miniatures.
Crowdfunding campaign on Gamefound
The crowdfunding campaign launches on April 8 on Gamefound, where interested players can follow and support the project. Pricing, stretch goals and exact contents have yet to be revealed, but Steamforged Games has promised more details soon.
