After the Omens of Tyranny update in December 2024, Helldivers 2 received another major update on May 20th. As reported earlier, the ‘Heart of Democracy’ update introduced new content, with the highlights being the change of battlefield to the Super Earth, squid-like foe Illuminate, and the AI-powered SEAF soldiers.
Right after the update rolled out, Helldivers 2 player count increased, surpassing its last peak of 150,169 players. At the time of writing, the game has had a 24-hour peak of 163,581 players, according to the Steam DB charts. Judging by these numbers, the Heart of Democracy update seems to be well-received by the players. And fans seem to have taken a special fancy to the AI SEAF soldiers.
A Reddit post titled “AH, can we please keep them after the assault ends” requests that Arrowhead Game Studios, the game's developer, let players keep the SEAF soldiers. The post went viral on the Helldiver subreddit, with many players echoing the sentiment.
Some users believe that the SEAF soldiers will continue to be a part of the game even after this update ends. “There’s no way they’re going to put this much work into implementing them just to get rid of them once we save super earth,” one of the users pointed out.
“I think this is a testing ground for AI vs AI and seaf following commands. AH will see how much we love those guys. They are the Guard, our soldiers, EVERYONE needs a squad in the squad,” a Reddit user commented.
A few other users suggested that it’d be a great idea if the SEAF soldiers could use FRVs (Fast Recon Vehicle). “Riding an FRV with a SEAF Squad would go so hard. Not enough space for the whole squad tho,” the user suggested. “You know what, an FRV full of SEAF troops would be so sick, actually. I have no idea if they would be any good with the heavy MG, but that would be so damn cool,” another player echoed the sentiment.
To add to that, a few players believe that the SEAF squad may become a stratagem in the near future. “I love them so much. They might be kind of derpy and slow to react to situations, but their character is just so good, it captures exactly what made the Halo Marines so good. If they become a stratagem, I hope their cooldown is nice and short, and you can have them often. They’re actually not bad once you get a nice group of them together; they can take on a horde of enemies by themselves, the user explained.
Overall, the community’s reaction to the SEAF soldiers in Helldivers 2 is overwhelmingly positive, with players expressing a strong desire for them to remain a permanent feature in the game.
