‘Weak invasion,’ say Helldivers 2 players as Waffle House remains open during Illuminate attack
In what may be the most American crossover meme of 2025, Helldivers 2 players have taken to Reddit to jokingly declare that Waffle House, the 24/7 diner chain known for its almost invincible resolve, is the final line of defence against the Illuminate's invasion of Super Earth.
The hilarious debate was kicked off by a fake tweet shared in the Helldivers subreddit that read, “During the invasion of the Super Earth by the Illuminate, all Waffle House locations will remain open.” The post received hundreds of comments that ranged from jokes to a request for the next crossover.
“Can’t be that bad of an invasion if the Waffle Houses are staying open,” a Redditor commented. Another user echoed the sentiment, saying, “What a weak invasion by the squids if it couldn't even close a single Super Waffle House.”
Meanwhile, another user claimed, “Rumor is that 93% of Helldivers are former Waffle House employees,” to which someone sharply replied, “Can’t be, far too competent. The Waffle House employees are the ones you call in when the Helldivers have failed.”
A few other users commented on the Waffle House employees, known for their resilience during sudden brawls. “Good luck to any Illuminate invading a Waffle House, the chefs do not mess around,” a comment read. Another user responded, “Even the squids know they don’t want any of that Waffle House heat. Those workers have seen things.”

For some context, Waffle House is known to operate even during hurricanes, blackouts, or brawls. In fact, the Waffle House Index is an informal disaster metric used by the U.S. FEMA to assess the severity of natural disasters. This is not the first time that video game players have wanted a crossover with Waffle House. Last year, Tekken 8 players requested a crossover, but we haven’t received any updates so far.
