With the 2025 generation, HP retires its ZBook Firefly branding, instead selling the HP ZBook 8 G1i 14 as its affordable workstation laptop. The newest version uses Intel Arrow Lake H and our particular model does not have a Nvidia GPU - can the experiment with using just Intel graphics work?

Compact but powerful, the HP ZBook 8 G1i pairs a professional Nvidia GPU with a hefty 64 GB of RAM. We tested how much performance this small workstation can really deliver.

We weren't blown away by the HP ZBook 8 G1ak 14 – although it's a perfectly capable machine that's enjoyable to use day-in and day-out. It looks every bit the part as a workstation should, with an outstanding build quality and extremely robust chassis, while also looking easy on the eye. However, it unfortunately fails to deliver on the performance levels you would really want from a machine built like this. While the display is also excellent, you can find better displays (with superior technologies like OLED) in ultraportables like the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 – and better performance in plenty of comparable non-workstations too. For that reason, while there is plenty of potential in this machine, it's hard to recommend over alternative devices unless you need the connectivity features, added security extras, and a really bright display.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel Arc 140T: Integrated graphics unit of the Intel Arrow Lake H/HX CPU series. It is based on the Xe+ architecture and features 8 cores (128 CUs)
NVIDIA RTX 500 Ada Generation Laptop: A lower-end professional graphics card for use in laptops that sports 2,048 CUDA cores and 4 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. It appears the RTX 500 is a heavily cut-down GeForce RTX 4050 (Laptop); therefore, we believe the former is powered by the same AD107 chip as the latter. The product was brought into existence in February 2024. It leverages TSMC's 5 nm process and the Ada Lovelace architecture and its gaming performance is sufficient for 2023/2024 games at 1080p on high graphics settings.
AMD Radeon 880M: A fairly powerful RDNA 3.5 architecture iGPU that debuted in June 2024 and a direct successor to the Radeon 780M. Its 12 CUs/WGPs (768 unified shaders) run at up to 2,900 MHz. DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, AI image generation and other modern features are all supported here, as are many popular video codecs including first and foremost AVC, HEVC, VP9 and AV1. Its gaming performance is good enough for playing 2024 games such as Once Human and The First Descendant at 1080p on low graphics settings.

Intel Arrow Lake:
Ultra 7 255H: High-end mobile processor based on the Arrow Lake architecture with 16 cores divided into 3 clusters. The fast 6 P-cores clock at up to 5.1 GHz. There are also 8 smaller E-cores with up to 4.4 GHz and 2 small low power cores (same architecture) with up to 2.5 GHz. It integrates a small NPU with 13 TOPS peak performance and supports vPro Essentials.
Ultra 7 265H: High-end mobile processor based on the Arrow Lake architecture with 16 cores divided into 3 clusters. The fast 6 P-cores clock at up to 5.3 GHz. There are also 8 smaller E-cores with up to 4.5 GHz and 2 small low power cores (same architecture) with up to 2.5 GHz. It integrates a small NPU with 13 TOPS peak performance and supports vPro Enterprise.
AMD Strix Halo/Point (Zen 5/5c, Ryzen AI 300):
Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360: A relatively powerful Strix Point family processor that debuted in October 2024. The hybrid architecture APU features 8 CPU cores (a mix of Zen 5 and Zen 5c cores) running at up to 5.0 GHz, along with the Radeon 880M graphics adapter and the 50 TOPS XDNA 2 neural engine. The AMD Secure Processor (which in a nutshell is an on-package ARM co-processor) is onboard as well as are a few other higher-end features, such as AMD-Vi. Other key features include PCIe 4, USB 4 and up to LPDDR5x-8000 RAM support, including ECC RAM. The long-term TDP power target can be as high as 55 W.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

79.03%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
