A GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q notebook at under S$4,000 is pretty attractive (considering Razer's Blade 15 costs nearly as much and and only features a GeForce RTX 2070), but it becomes a lot less so when you realise you have to pay extra for more RAM and install it yourself to unlock the notebook's full potential. Oddly enough, last year's Omen 15 is still listed on HP's website with 9th Gen processors and dual-channel memory, but it seems like the new model only comes in a single-channel configuration. Still, if you're familiar with your hardware and don't mind the extra expense, the Omen 15 remains a decent and relatively 'affordable' choice for a gaming notebook today with top specs. It's just difficult to recommend to someone who doesn't want to do their own upgrades (and they really shouldn't have to).

The HP Omen 15 2019 is, without a doubt, a powerful laptop, but like other devices, it has its flaws. It has a great display configuration, above-average gaming performance, and slim form factor. The only significant issues that I had here is that it has heating problems while its battery life is subpar. But overall, the gaming laptop is one heck of a performer and worthy upgrade if you have an older Omen. However, the pricing of this device will most likely affect your decision to get it.

The HP Omen 15 is an impressive gaming machine. The RTX 2070 Max-Q will play single-player games at good speeds and eSports titles at beyond 200fps. The rest of the specification is great, and the screen is stellar – quality levels are high and the inclusion of 240Hz G-Sync means nothing is as smooth as the Omen’s panel.

On the inside, the RTX 2070 Max-Q is a powerful GPU that has enough power to play single-player titles at good framerates and to handle esports games beyond 200fps. The proper mobile RTX 2070 is faster, though, so think about a machine with that GPU if you’re more concerned with gaming power than the high refresh-rate panel. Elsewhere, the CPU, memory, storage and connectivity are excellent.

he 2020 HP Omen 15 packs in the RTX 2060 graphics card, which allowed us to get 144FPS in Call of Duty WarZone at 1080P resolution. It also comes with Intel's 10th-Gen i7 6-core processor so you're good on the processor side. We were also surprised by the huge amount of upgradability the Omen offers at the price, along with the up to date specs.

The HP Omen 15 is a well-built gaming laptop that reminded me of why I like gaming so much. The 15-inch, 4K panel is absolutely gorgeous; it’s bright, colorful, has nice black levels and the excellent contrast really pulled me in. Playing Borderlands 3 on the Omen was so much fun because of how the display rendered the rich color palette. The Omen either matched or surpassed its competition in our benchmarks with its Intel Core i7-10750H CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max Q GPU. With its simple yet sexy styling, the Omen 15 is an attractive option you should take a serious look at, but keep in mind, it weighs over 5 pounds and the battery life is not the best.

I think HP’s Omen 15 (2020) is one of those good purchase decisions. It offers a reasonable amount of performance, looks great and is plenty portable. If you need one computer that can game, move around and work in an office setting, this is probably the one to get.

Ultimately, the price difference between the Omen 15 2019 (15-dh1000) and the Omen 15 2020 (15-ek0000) is around $100 for the same hardware configuration. Now you know what you basically give up with the “older” laptop, and if you don’t really care about battery life, we would strongly advise saving this amount of money and getting a decent gaming accessory (like a mouse for example). Or just take your girlfriend (or boyfriend) out for a nice dinner.
