Despite reusing the same chassis design and ports as the 2025 Omen 16, the 2026 model introduces a stronger CPU, faster and higher resolution display, and a cleaner keyboard layout that even occasional gamers can appreciate. Moreover, the Valorant Edition skin is surprisingly attractive on an otherwise midrange model.

The HP HyperX OMEN 16 VALORANT Edition gets the most important part of a special-edition laptop right: it does not rely on the branding to justify itself. The Valorant design is more carefully executed than the usual gaming collaborations. The speakers are okayish, while the fan noise is quite loud under demanding tasks.

Is this the best gaming laptop for a Valorant player specifically? Not really, and I’d say that’s true almost by definition. If you’re playing at a competitive level, you’re better off with a desktop. If you’re a casual player like me, a laptop this powerful is overkill for a game that doesn’t demand much GPU muscle to begin with. Just don’t buy it for the Valorant name.

While the HP HyperX Omen 16 Valorant Edition has some flaws, most of them from the price to the low battery life are things I consider par for the course when it comes to higher-end gaming laptops. The keyboard may be an annoyance, but it could be mitigated with a good peripheral. Past that, I think it’s a fine gaming laptop that I enjoyed my time with especially if you enjoy Valorant.

The HP HyperX OMEN 16 VALORANT Edition is one of those rare special-edition laptops where the branding feels genuinely thought through. The Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 10, for instance, pairs the Core Ultra 9 275HX with a faster RTX 5070 Ti and an OLED display for less money. And if the budget can stretch further, the HP OMEN Max 16 makes a stronger case as a value-focused flagship with its RTX 5080.

The HyperX Omen 15 is best viewed as a speedy-enough everyday laptop with gaming chops. Its sturdy build, comfortable input devices, quiet operation, and long-lasting battery life make it suitable for work, school, and general productivity. However, graphics rendering performance and value matter most in a budget gaming laptop, and the RTX 5050 model we tested trails rival systems with the same graphics chip. At the same time, you can find RTX 5060-based laptops for similar cash if you dig enough. Unless this exact Omen configuration gets a steep discount, the MSI Katana 15 HX remains the better pick for budget gaming performance.

The HP HyperX OMEN 15-ga0028TX gets many of the fundamentals right. It has a sturdy chassis, a comfortable keyboard, a useful selection of ports, straightforward internal access and a cooling system that maintains performance without producing excessive fan noise. Its display is particularly good and CPU performance is another strength. The Core i7-14650HX handles modern games and multi-threaded productivity workloads comfortably. From a purely-FPS perspective, those laptops do better in most games but there will be times when you’d have wished for a better CPU. So it’s a choice, either you can compromise on the GPU and get the HyperX OMEN or compromise on the memory and get the competing units. But if you really want an HP laptop, then the RTX 5060 variant is a better buy.

The HyperX Omen 15 wins for its OLED display and RTX 5070 performance that handles most modern games well at 1080p. Its low-key design and comfortable keyboard also make it feel less like a gaming rig and more like an everyday laptop you'd be happy to take out in public and carry anywhere.

The HyperX OMEN 15 is a good gaming laptop that provides plenty of power for your favorite titles. At least if you add a little to the specifications for one of the higher-tier models.

If you don’t mind the weight and thickness, the HyperX Omen 15 could be a good option if you’re looking for a machine that tackles gaming at home, but can still hold up on the move. Its performance is solid and sustains well without intolerable fan noise. It even has the efficiency to run for a good stretch if you’re away from a power outlet.

If not for the polling rate issue, I think this would be an easy Editor's Choice. As it stands, I'm going to give it our Recommended award, because Joe Gamer isn't going to want to have to troubleshoot issues like this. There's also the 8GB of video RAM to contend with, although that's not HP's fault.
