Google has begun rolling out the large September feature update to Pixel 6 and all newer Pixel smartphones. While Google's new Material 3 Expressive user interface was previously only available on the Pixel 10, users of older Pixel smartphones now finally have access to the design updates.
Material 3 Expressive is primarily more colorful and playful, giving users more options than ever before to customize the colors of the user interface to their own preferences or to match their chosen wallpaper. Google specifically mentions that the 'Quick Settings' have been revamped, that live effects can be added to the lock screen, and that after the update, users can design a contact screen that will be displayed to other Pixel users when you call them.
Following the update, the Google Pixel Watch automatically takes over ongoing navigation as long as a pedestrian or cyclist route has been entered on the connected Pixel smartphone via Google Maps. The Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 now support Adaptive Audio, which automatically adjusts noise cancellation to the environment, while Google's Gemini AI voice assistant is now better at understanding users, even if there is background noise.
The Google Pixel 8 and newer models also receive support for Bluetooth Le Audio and Auracast via the latest feature drop. Users can now connect two compatible Bluetooth headphones to a Pixel smartphone at the same time, as well as listen to Auracast channels (similar to radio stations), such as those used at airports or trade fairs.
