If you are interested in the recently announced Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II, this may be a great time to check out the 2018 original, which is now 80% off on Steam. The XCOM-inspired turn-based tactics game also comes with an incredible soundtrack.

Space Marines are awesome, but how about a group of cultists that worship a machine god? Say hello to the tech priests of the Warhammer 40K universe. One of the most technologically advanced factions in the Imperium, these priests have willingly augmented their bodies with machines.

Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus lets you command an army of these priests and lead their operations on a planet called Silva Tenerbis, allowing you to customize their ranks, discover new tech, and fight to prevent an ominous Necron awakening.

You play as Faustinius, a high-ranking Magos Dominus in the Adeptus Mechanicus from Mars, as you command your squad to not only prevent a Necron awakening but a rebellion aboard your own ship.

The story offers a unique perspective into the Warhammer world through the eyes of a faction that believes technology is humanity's only salvation. United in their worship of a machine god they call the Omnissiah, they revere the first gears, cogs, and codes of the earliest machines ever built.

The gameplay is a simple but addictive blend of XCOM-style turn-based tactics with light rogue-lite elements. You can upgrade your tech-priest units with new weapons, support items, servo-skulls, and other mechanical augments to make them stronger and hit harder.

You can also customize your force's disciplines by choosing from various character classes to create a unique squad tailored to your playstyle.

Reviews - "Simple yet effective gameplay"

The game has a "Very Positive" rating, with users praising its unique presentation, as well as the killer soundtrack by Guillaume David, which blends church organs, choirs, and synthesizers to create an oppressive industrial atmosphere.

The negative reviews mention the game's difficulty, while others point out that it tends to get a little repetitive the longer you play.

The game is currently 80% off, priced at $5.99 (€5.79 or £4.99) for the standard edition. The Omnissiah Edition of the game contains the original soundtrack, a short e-story, a unique weapon, and a digital artbook for $6.99 (€6.79 or £5.90). You can also grab the DLC expansion Heretek for $4.99 (€4.87 or £4.25).
