Gigabyte has just unveiled a new monitor, which combines a high resolution with a fast refresh rate, making it suitable not only for video gaming.

Gigabyte has a new monitor on offer, the M27UA, that is clearly aimed at video gamers, but not only this group. The 27-inch IPS panel has a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, which will provide a lot of workspace for those who use numerous apps in tandem. To a certain extent, the high resolution is also somewhat of a burden: if the native resolution is required, the hardware must also offer enough power to provide appealing playback. The M27UA supports a refresh rate of up to 160 Hz. Gigabyte puts the response time at one millisecond (MPRT) or five milliseconds (gray-to-gray). FreeSync Premium is supported, which is intended to effectively prevent tearing.

The maximum brightness is specified as 400 cd/m². The IPS panel is unlikely to be  particularly suitable for displaying high-contrast content at the level of an OLED due to the contrast ratio of 1,000:1 and the display technology used, but it does have DisplayHDR 400 certification. According to Gigabyte, 95% of the DCI-P3 color space is covered. Various gaming functions are advertised, such as brightening black areas of the image, zoom, night vision and displaying a crosshair.

The monitor can input image signals via HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and USB-C. USB PD with a rather meagre 18 watts is supported, and a USB hub with three USB 3.2 ports is available for accessories and storage. Lastly, two speakers with an output of 3 watts each are installed.

Information on price or availability is not yet available.

A possible alternative: Buy the AOC Gaming U27G3X at Amazon.
