The Garmin CIRQA Smart Band has now received its second software update.
Garmin is now offering a new update to one of its latest wearables. A major release, the new update contains well over a dozen new features, changes and improvements, including configurable button options and improved battery management features.

Garmin has returned with a new software update for its first CIRQA-branded device. Launched in late July (curr. $199 on Amazon), the CIRQA Smart Band boasts up to 10 days of battery life and does not require a subscription to function, unlike the Whoop 5.0. If a recent certification is anything to go by, then Garmin's Smart Band may be the first of multiple CIRQA-branded releases.

Last month, Garmin rolled out its first stable update to the CIRQA Smart Band. Replacing Software Version 2.32 via its Garmin Connect Mobile (GCM) and Garmin Express services, Software Version 2.50 was said to improve the Smart Band's optical heart rate (OHR) sensor. As we discussed at the time, Garmin left what changes it had actually made up to speculation.

Now, it has transitioned stable development to a major new software revision. Specifically, the company has released Software Version 3.20, again through its GCM and Garmin Express services. At the time of publication, the new update should have been offered to at least 20% of CIRQA Smart Band owners. If that has not occurred in your case, then you can request the new update manually via Garmin Express or GCM.

In a forum post, Garmin clarifies that Software Version 3.20 contains over a dozen changes, improvements and new features. For instance, the new update introduces configurable button behaviours and support for entering pairing mode when using BLE HR broadcasting. Moreover, Garmin claims to have fixed a problem that prevented low battery notifications from appearing during an activity.

Incidentally, the update adjusts the low battery and critical battery thresholds to 10% and 5%, respectively. Furthermore, the update should improve LED behaviours, too. The full changelog between Software Version 2.50 and Software Version 3.20 is as follows:

  • Add prompts explaining how to snooze or dismiss the alarm when saving alarm settings for the first time.
  • Added a broadcast prompt for device control.
  • Added button behaviour settings (single press/hold) to start activity.
  • Added support for entering pairing mode during BLE HR broadcasting to establish the connection.
  • Added treadmill recalibration when users manually enter distance (>= 1.5 KM or 1 mile).
  • Adjusted low battery threshold to 10% and critical low battery threshold to 5%.
  • Allowed rep counting edits on GCM.
  • Disabled rep counting on Upper Arm mode.
  • Fixed a crash when pressing the lap option during Row activity.
  • Fixed an issue where adaptive coaching workout could not start on Android.
  • Fixed an issue where low battery notifications did not appear during activity.
  • Fixed incorrect timing for bedtime approaching notifications.
  • Fixed minor bugs in the app UI and device LED behaviour.
  • Fixed unexpected vibrations for Smart Wake alarm.
  • Forced GPS on when Auto Start LiveTrack.
  • Moved Battery Manager to the System menu.
  • Removed unused unit settings (swim total, pressure, vertical speed).
  • Updated default auto lap distance when unit settings change.
  • Updated the battery UI in GCM.
