Garmin alternative: New smartwatch launching globally with intelligent marathon mode

Huawei has confirmed that it will introduce the Watch GT Runner 2 later this month. The company has also already announced that the Watch GT Runner 2 will be one of many new products it will be showcasing on February 26. Currently, the smartwatch is expected to land globally alongside the Band 11 Pro, FreeBuds Pro 5, Mate 80 Pro and the MatePad Mini tablet.
In the meantime, Huawei has begun sharing Watch GT Runner 2-related teaser videos on YouTube. Embedded below, the videos position the company's new smartwatch as a direct successor to the Watch GT Runner, but five years on. By extension, the Watch GT Runner 2 should rival Garmin smartwatches popular with runners like the Fenix 8 or the Forerunner 970 ($749.99 on Amazon).
Developed in collaboration with Eliud Kipchoge like its predecessor, the Watch GT Runner 2 appears to contain a few notable improvements over recent Huawei smartwatches. For instance, Huawei has teased the inclusion of an 'intelligent marathon mode'. Described as a training-focused feature, Huawei claims its new will help owners prepare more effectively for long-distance events.
Moreover, the Watch GT Runner 2 should leverage Huawei's TruSense system. Now present on multiple Huawei smartwatches, TrueSense can measure upwards of sixty health and fitness metrics to provide various health insights. Also, the smartwatch will take advantage of the company's Sunflower positioning system for route and activity location tracking. Huawei will sell the Watch GT Runner 2 internationally; pricing remains unknown for now, though.
