Garmin Venu 3 and Venu 3S smartwatches launch with tweaked designs and up to 14 days of battery life
Garmin has now presented the Venu 3 series, a familiar-looking follow-up to the Venu 2, Venu 2S and Venu 2 Plus. As expected, Garmin has not directly replaced the Venu 2 Plus, which has a 43 mm case size. Instead, the Venu 3 series consists of 41 mm and 45 mm models, which Garmin sells as the Venu 3S and Venu 3, respectively.
According to Garmin, it has added the following features to the Venu range with its third-generation models:
- Body Battery improvements
- Built-in speaker and microphone
- Interval creation
- Meditation activity
- Morning report
- Nap detection
- Rate of perceived exertion
- Sleep coach
- Two font sizes
- Wheelchair mode
- Workout benefit and recovery time
Hardware differences between the Venu 2 and Venu 3 series are minimal, though. For example, the Venu 3 retains a 1.4-inch AMOLED display that resolves at 454 x 454 pixels. By contrast, the Venu 3S has a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a 390 x 390-pixel native resolution. Additionally, Garmin promises up to 10 days of battery life for the smaller Venu 3S or 14 days for the Venu 3. As always, these battery life estimates drop drastically with GNSS location services activated. For example, the Venu 3 is rated for up to 20 hours of usage with all-systems GNSS mode activated.
Moreover, the Venu 3 series has 8 GB of built-in storage, an NFC chip for making contactless payments, plus the usual assortment of health monitoring sensors. Curiously, Garmin makes no mention of the Venu 3 series' alleged skin temperature monitoring capabilities. Either way, the Garmin Venu 3 series retails for US$449.99 for all finishes and sizes.
