Garmin Fenix 9 Pro launches with up to 291 days of battery life, solar, and new titanium case
Along with the Garmin Fenix 9, Garmin also unveiled the Fenix 9 Pro today. The two models offer largely the same features, but the top-of-the-line model features a higher-quality case made entirely of titanium, rather than partially from fiber-reinforced polymer. The watch is water-resistant up to 10 ATM and suitable for diving to a depth of 40 meters.
In addition, the Garmin Fenix 9 Pro offers an optional LTE modem and satellite connectivity. The AMOLED display reaches a higher brightness of 3,000 nits, and is slightly larger in the largest 51-millimeter version at 1.5 inches instead of 1.4 inches. However, the 43-mm and 47-mm variants of both models feature a 1.3-inch and 1.4-inch display, respectively. Perhaps most exciting, however, is that the Garmin Fenix 9 Pro is also available with an energy-efficient MiP display instead of an AMOLED display, at least in the two larger versions.
While this model isn’t as colorful, it’s significantly more energy-efficient and equipped with integrated solar cells. As a result, the 51-millimeter version lasts 57 days instead of 31 under normal use, and in power-saving mode, it lasts 291 days instead of 42. Compared to the older Fenix 8 Pro ($1,049 on Amazon), the Fenix 9 Pro not only offers a brighter display, a MiP option, and a higher-quality, slightly thinner titanium case, but also double the storage at 64 GB and several new software features.
These include Garmin Epic, which allows multi-day activities to be combined into a single adventure and supplemented with photos, health, and performance data. The user interface is said to run more smoothly, especially when using topographic maps, while the LED flashlight can now shine in red, green, and white. However, Garmin continues to include the Elevate 5 sensor, which can measure heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and skin temperature, as well as perform an ECG. The usual Fenix features, such as GPS navigation, Garmin Pay via NFC, and numerous outdoor and fitness features, are once again included. More details can be found on the product page.
Pricing and availability
The Garmin Fenix 9 Pro AMOLED (43 mm and 47 mm) and the Garmin Fenix 9 Pro Solar (47 mm) each cost $1,099. The largest 51 mm model is available with either an AMOLED or MiP display, including solar cells, for $1,199. All models are available with inReach, featuring an integrated LTE modem and satellite connectivity, for an additional $100. However, a subscription is required to use these features. Some color options and watch strap bundles are priced higher. The smartwatch will be available for order in the Garmin online store starting August 28.
