Gamer lucks out, scores RTX 5080 gaming GPU with whopping $437 discount

GPU prices have been a mess for well over half a decade now. Finding a decent modern card at MSRP has become synonymous to winning a small lottery, considering that one manages to find stock in the first place. Further, the skyrocketing prices for memory, courtesy of the AI boom, has made gaming setups even more expensive.
Gamer claims to hit jackpot, commenters cry foul
However, as we have reported on previously, a good number of enthusiasts and gamers have managed to find shockingly good deals on gaming hardware, courtesy of thrift stores and clearance sales. One such gamer has seemingly managed to pick up a PNY RTX 5080 triple-fan card for just $562 at their local Walmart, which they managed to find in the clearance aisle.
For perspective, the PNY RTX 5080 gaming GPU is retailing for just under $1,400 on Amazon right now. This indicates net savings north of 57%, which is simply incredible in the current market scenario. There is no way to verify whether or not the OP was telling the truth, but the image they shared does seem to indicate that they were.

Interestingly, few commenters who claim to be in the know of how Walmart manages clearance sales have stated that it is possible for an employee to mark down a product, with the intention of buying that same discounted product at the end of their next shift, or after 24 hours. If this is indeed true, it would certainly prove to be a massive loophole that is extremely easy to exploit.
Apart from the aforementioned reason, there is hardly any room for a different explanation why the GPU was discounted so heavily. It is a well-known fact that supply shortages and increased demand have driven up gaming GPU prices by a quite a lot, making it extremely unlikely that a high-end modern gaming GPU with such heavy demand will witness attractive discounts.
