Prohibitively expensive RTX 5070 Ti price to get worse as Nvidia is reportedly winding down RTX 50 GPU production

Just last month, Hardware Unboxed was involved in a controversy when the outlet reported that Nvidia had discontinued the RTX 5070 Ti. HU’s information came from Asus. Asus later backtracked, while Nvidia also denied canceling any GeForce RTX 50 GPU. However, the prices of the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB have since gone up considerably, suggesting that Nvidia has indeed reduced the supply of the said boards.
HU now claims that the RTX 5070 Ti is set to experience even more price hikes in Australia. The outlet reports that, when the current stock of RTX 5070 Ti retailing between AUD 1,550 and AUD 1,600 runs out, an immediate restock will see the RTX 5070 Ti price jump to AUD 1,800.
What makes the situation even worse is that Nvidia is reportedly scaling back the production of the entire RTX 50 series, and the next-generation RTX 60 series cards also seem to have been delayed to the end of 2027. So, not only will gamers not be able to buy the current-gen RTX 50 cards at reasonable prices, but there is no next-gen launch in sight to ease the pain.
The GeForce RTX 50 series isn’t the only one getting more expensive, as the prices of the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT are also climbing.
RX 9060 XT, RX 9070, and RX 9070 XT have become more expensive
During the Holiday 2025 season, you could easily buy the RX 9060 XT 8/16 GB and RX 9070/XT at or below their official MSRPs. Things have now changed, as it is currently quite difficult, if not impossible, to find the RX 9000 series GPUs at those prices.
If we look at Newegg, for instance, the cheapest RX 9060 XT 8 GB is listed for $349.99, which is $50 more than the board’s $299 MSRP. The RX 9060 XT 16 GB has suffered a similar fate, as you’ll have to pay $439.99 to get your hands on one. This is around $90 more than the $349 launch price of the card.
The same is true for the RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT. At the time of writing, the cheapest RX 9070 on Newegg is the PowerColor Reaper RX 9070 for $589.99. For the RX 9070 XT, the lowest-priced card on Newegg is the ASRock Challenger RX 9070 XT for $729.99, a $130 premium over the $599 MSRP.
All in all, the GPU market continues to get worse for the average consumer. If you’ve been waiting for things to improve, you’ll likely be waiting for a while.
