Deal | This dark fantasy ARPG that has a different take on the War of Canudos is now 30% off on Steam

Rogue Snail describes itself as a fully remote game studio based in Brazil. Their focus on remote work has enabled them to build a “beautifully diverse team from all around the country,” with their core team having been making video games for over a decade now. In mid 2025, the studio released their latest project at the time, a Diablo-like ARPG called Hell Clock.
The game is a single-player hack-and-slash roguelike with a unique setting: Guerra de Canudos, a 19th-century conflict between the First Brazilian Republic and the inhabitants of Canudos, a municipality in the state of Bahia, Brazil. Following the abolition of slavery in Brazil, and the Proclamation of the Republic, which saw the end of the reign of Emperor Pedro II, and the end of the constitutional monarchy as a whole. The conflict saw the deaths of over 25,000 inhabitants of Canudos, because they defied the new Republic.
Players here will assume the role of “Pajeú, a warrior fighting to rescue the soul of The Counselor, his fallen mentor,” a possible reference to Antônio Conselheiro, a Brazilian religious leader, preacher, and founder of the village of Canudos. The roguelike features kick in with “each descent,” where time warps and your powers grow as you continue your journey to save your mentor’s soul.
Brought to life with stunning visuals and a unique hand-drawn art style, the game has received praise across multiple aspects, including its graphics, gameplay, and soundtrack, with a common theme being its brutal story, based on real-life events.
Some players, though, did voice some concerns about the gameplay. Common issues include bugs and glitches, as well as minor issues where the game wasn’t performing up to their expectations, which is expected in most new games. The devs have been very good with their communications and community outreach. Some ARPG enthusiasts noted that the levels can feel a bit monotonous, and the roguelike repetition isn't what they’re looking for.
Hell Clock received a warm reception upon its release, earning a Very Positive rating and over 2,700 positive reviews on Steam, where it can be purchased at a 30% discount for $13.99, till the 17th of February.
